I have my books arranged by author, publisher, (i like it when the little logo on top or bottom kind of "flow") and size/color. surprisingly enough, it works out pretty good so far.

My bookshelves are organized very oddly. On the top row is all my Jane Austen novels and then the books dealing with her/her books (Mr. Darcy Takes a Wife, JA Book Club, Bridget Jones, etc). Then comes my series books: Pink Carnation series and Harry Potter. After those I have my nonfiction (basically biographies). Then is classics. Then, this is the weird spot, my fiction are arranged by where the story takes place lol Like Atonement is with books in England and Snow Flower & the Secret Fan is with books in China. The very last books are the ones that are set in fantasy worlds (LOTR, Stardust, etc).
I do put the biggest and heaviest books on the bottom shelf though, for stability reasons lol

I love this thread! (It's been a while since I've checked this site...!) I enjoyed reading everyone's organization abilities - they all make perfect sense! Mine are organized by genre. My book case is taller than it is wide, so currently, they all fit perfectly. On top of the shelves are my old old old books (like 1800s, early 1900s). They're more for show! The top shelf is all my classics. Next down is all memoirs - one side travel memoirs then the other end I have a few factual books on Italy and the Renaissance. Next down is a mix. Left side is fiction, right side is non-fiction (biographies, history, nonItalian, nonTravel memoirs). The bottom shelf is a mix (and it truly bothers me that I don't have enough room to separate these any more!) - It goes from "help" books (Starting an Internet Company, Starting your own Business, etc) to Devotional Books to my Bible Commentaries/Handbooks to basic Bible study books. Each shelf is organized by size, but not to "sizey" - I don't like each shelf to look tall on one side and short on the other. So some books are upright, and others are laying down. Basically, it has to look pretty.... Oh, and the books beside my bed on a little shelf are the ones from the library, that I'm borrowing, or that I'm currently reading.

I've got a bookcase where I put all my hardcover books on one shelf and all my travel books on the other. Then in another bookcase, I've got all my grammars/dictionaries on one shelf, all my literary anthologies on the other, and a small (but growing) Spanish and drama section on the top shelf. Then in my main bookcase, I've got British lit on top, then Canadian, then American, then French/Quebec. That's pretty much how it goes!

I have just got rid of most of my books. But usually I keep books from same author in one group, but not alphabeticly. Unless they have big size difference, then I put big books on one side and smaller books on other. I really need new and bigger bookshelf, I only got about twenty books in my apartment, rest are at my parents house. I'd really like to get all my books in one place and organized.

Hurray, I just go a new book case! Well, technically it's not new. It's quite old actually. But it's functional, and it looks presentable because it's been refurbished. Best of all, it was free, I found it in my parents' garage. I was desperately lacking self-space, and now that I have more space I can better organize my books. Wow, I sound lame, getting excited about a new bookshelf.... lol

Then in my main bookcase, I've got British lit on top, then Canadian, then American, then French/Quebec. I felt like reorganizing last night and I liked your idea of separating them by region. I only did the novels but now I have an American bookcase (and a half), a British bookcase, and the rest of the countries only had a few books so they got put on various shelves like western Europe and Canada/Australia. I was surprised at my lack of Canadian novels. I only had 2. That surprised me. And I have way too many American novels. I think that I need to branch out. Maybe I'll take new pictures for the visual documents of your reading thread.

Mine are in alphabetical order by author. The books I've bought but haven't read are in order by genre, like classics and chick lit etc. And then I've got my comic books stacked in a little pile (betty and veronica and archie comics!! ) I have a mix of novels, but I don't have a lot of Russian authors. Once my high school life is done I'll get to it!!
