I was visiting Waterstone's website - for those of you who aren't aware, Waterstone's is a bookstore in the UK - and while I was visiting their website I read that J.K. Rowling wrote a prequel to the Harry Potter series for charity. The prequel appeared in the form of a short story measuring approximately 800 words in length. It was auctioned off for 25,000 pounds, and the proceeds went towards two charities: English PEN and Dyslexia Action. Several other authors, including Nick Hornby and Margaret Atwood, also wrote short stories which were similarly auctioned off for the same charity. If you're interested, you can read more about the actual event on Waterstone's website, here: www.waterstones.com/waterstonesweb/home.do. You can also read the short stories themselves! Very exciting, I think. I also think it's wonderful to discover that authors such as J.K. Rowling are giving back to the community in such ways as this. I will say this though, I did have some difficulty reading their handwriting. lol But luckily, at least for me, it did not detract from the enjoyment which I got out of reading their stories. It just took me longer to read their stories....

I read about the charities and the prequel to Harry Potter on Jo Rowling's website but there wasn't the story itself. Thanks for posting the link!

I read this prequel a while ago. It was entertaining and fun but too short to create the same atmosphere I like so much about the books.
