Can anyone recommend interesting French books I can read with my very basic knowledge of the language? Maybe something contemporary? Thanks!

I don't know any sorry. I wish I did I would love to be able to read in French. Isa probably knows some but I think she's still on her holiday.

I just got back Have you read Amelie Nothomb's "Stupeur et Tremblements" (Fear & Trembling)? I really enjoyed it. If you like her style, then you could get some of her other novels, they're all fairly short and quite enjoyable. Also, I think I would recommend reading "Tous les matins du monde" by Pascal Quignard and "Le Diable au Corps" by Raymond Radiguet. Even though they're classics, I think they're pretty easy to read.

I don't know much about French literature but I did like Emile Ajar's Madame Rosa, I read it for school.

Thanks guys! I made a list of your suggestions I´ve heard of Amelie Nothomb but haven´t read any of her books. I´ll definitely try the one you suggested. I looked the others up, they sound interesting. I went to the library and checked out "Monsieur Ibrahim et les fleurs du Coran". I was so excited that I understood the summary on the back

Hey dorothy! I'm about halfway through Nancy Huston's "Lignes de faille" and it's amazing, I highly recommend it. It won the Femina Prize in 2006 and I think it might be her best novel yet - just thought I'd let you know!

I read Bonjour Tristesse in English translation when I was younger and think that would be a good one to read in French as it is quite short. I really enjoyed it at the time I read it.

He's one of my best friend's favorite authors. I've only read "Au bonheur des ogres" and I enjoyed it but I wasn't crazy about it... I'd like to read "La fée carabine" next because that's many people's favorite book by Pennac.
