That's too bad! I went to the annex when I was in NYC in November... I have to admit that I liked the main store better because of its location and also because the annex had a bit of a dingy warehouse feeling... but still, it's always sad news when a good bookstore closes. I hope you can at least enjoy the extra bargains!

That rent increase is insane - there should be some sort of general unconscionability restriction on rent increases. The same thing happened at my dance studio. We had a great location in downtown Ann Arbor and we had been there for 75 years. Then someone new bought the building and tried to double our rent. We ended up having to move to a new building on the outskirts of town. The new studio is beautiful, but it was really sad. And a lot of businesses can't move. My favorite Greek restaurant (under the same owner) was forced to shut down because of rent increases.
But, word on the street is that with the housing market in the mess that it is in, rents might begin to decrease for the first time in a long time.

That's always sad. My dad is in the process of selling the house that I grew up in. And it was really sudden so I didn't even have a chance to go back to Michigan and say goodbye to it. I had to make my brother go through all my stuff and get it out of there.

It's sad, especially if you grew up in that house.

It was sad, but it wasn't horrible. I didn't have a ton of stuff there anyway. And most of it is just at my old apartment now so I still have it. I was kind of happy to be far away during the whole ordeal anyway - a little too much drama for me.
That is very useful knowledge, Carma. I learned in high school, but I've never actually had to do it so I haven't been tested.
I took the day off from studying yesterday for the fourth, so now I have a bunch of practice questions to do today.

Hey guys, I'm back from the karate championships and guess what?! My nephew is the new Canadian heavyweight champion!! This means he's qualified to attend the PanAmerican games in Santiago (Chile) at the end of August, so any ideas for fundraisers are welcome because if we get enough money to send him, I'd probably be the one going with him

That's really cool. I wish I could be national champion of something.
You're going to have to sell quite a few boxes of candy...

That is so cool! And Chile is so great:)
So this past week two people have died at my job. It's really weird cause I don't have too much experience with death, but now I know that it smells kind of like yoghurt that's been standing outside the fridge for too long. Anyway, two people out of twelve that is living there is quite heavy on one week. The last guy died on Thursday, and I gave him his last supper (breakfast really) and then a little while later he died, pretty much all of a sudden (not because of the porridge I fed him hopefully).

I'm sorry, Hanna. That must be hard working in a place like that - especially if you haven't experienced it much before.
