www.smh.com.au/news/film/an-affair-to-remember/2007/03/01/1172338783408.htmlOk I came across this article about the new flick "Becoming Jane" about Jane Austin and I thought it was very interesting. It might not be news to a lot of you, knowing how long it takes for films to be released here we are probably the last to get it. But reading this article I'd like to see it, I don't know very much about Jane Austin's life. Anyway I just thought some of you might be interested I know there's a lot of Austin enthusiasts in our midst.

Thanks for posting that link, Dom! I had completely forgotten about that movie. It's supposed to come out in August here, and I'll probably go see it. I've read a lot about Austen's life (and visited her house in England ) and it seems like the details of that romance are not entirely well known, so it should be interesting to see how they decide to go about it in the movie. A lot of people were disappointed that they chose an American actress to play the part of Jane, but then many people were disappointed when Renee Zellwegger was picked to play the part of Bridget Jones and I thought she did a great job

That looks really interesting. I love Jane Austen and I'm sure I will enjoy a movie about her. It doesn't come out until August here, too.

UGGHHH!! I can't stand Anne Hathaway..... She makes any role horrible. She was horrible in Ella Enchanted(a book that i loved) mediocre in Devil Wears Prada. She was only really good in A Princess Diaries. I can't stand this...... why wHY I TELL YOU!

I was a bit surprised when I saw they picked her for it as well, I'd say it's mainly because of her star quality that will attract a lot of younger, female viewers and that she looks the part. Who knows maybe she will be a surprise hit like Kiera Knightly in PAP.

I'm looking forward to this flick as, judging by the trailer, if not entirely historically accurate it should nonetheless be lovely. Anna Mazwell Martin is playing Jane's sister Cassandra and if anyone got to see her work in "Bleak House" (or her appearence in one episode of "Doctor Who" even, hehe! i love that show) you'll understand why i'm hyped over that! Plus, i just happen to harbour an ENORMOUS crush on the adorable and talented James McAvoy, so there's no way i'm missing out on seeing him woo the heroine.... even if i spend the whole film wanting to rip Anne's head off her body from my jealousy!

I haven't heard of that movie before, so thank you for posting the link, Dom! I've checked and found that it's going to come out in October in Spain, probably it would be the same for Italy. I'm very interested in seeing that movie because I loved Jane Austen's writings, but I don't know much about her life, what I know mostly depends on introductions to her books. I'm surprised that Anne Hathaway plays Jane's role as much as I was surprised when I known that Keira Knigthley played Elizabeth Bennet in Pride & Prejudice...I'm still not convinced of that movie and I haven't seen it yet, I'm so fond with the one with Jennifer Ehle and Colin Firth!

I know she didn't get to choose what her lines and things were, compared to the book the movie sucked. But she didn't do a great job in the acting. I like Princess Diaries though because she's more goofy than serious.
Lu, I agree with you. I like the BBC P&P more than the movie (I have seen both). Colin Firth is so sexy!

Lu, I agree with you. I like the BBC P&P more than the movie (I have seen both). Colin Firth is so sexy! He is! He's perfect for Darcy's role! I'd like to have BBC P&P on DVD, I know it exists but I have never seen it around here.

I have both versions on DVD. I can never decide which one I like better. It's usually the one I most recently watched (which was the BBC version - or at least the first half).

I LOVE the BBC version. Sigh!!! Although memcart you do have a point both the movie and the drama/serial have their advantages and disadvantages. The movie might be easier to relate because the actors in the movie coincide with the ages of the characters within the book while the BBC drama has an extreme advantage in luckily casting Colin Firth who seemed to fit that role. Poor guy gets typecasted A LOT!! So ya, i mean if you like it short and sweet and too the point i guess the movie would be better. It's all open to opinion i guess but i think both are equally amazing !!
