This shocked me today:
TEN people have been confirmed killed in riots in the Tibetan capital of Lhasa, China's official Xinhua news agency said on Saturday.
Lhasa erupted into violence yesterday as Tibetans staged demonstrations in the biggest challenge to China's rule of the remote Himalayan region since 1989.
Xinhua, an outlet for Chinese government information, sought to lay the blame for the deaths on the Tibetan protesters, citing Tibetan officials as saying "mobs'' killed innocent people.
"The victims are all innocent civilians, and they have been burnt to death,'' Xinhua cited an official with the Tibetan government as saying.
The victims included two hotel employees and two shop owners, the official reportedly said.
Tanks and other military vehicles were on the streets of Lhasa on Saturday amid a heavy security clampdown following violent riots in the Tibetan capital, witnesses told AFP by phone.
Chaos was reported in the streets of the city yesterday, with crowds burning businesses and cars.
Xinhua said about 100 shops in downtown Lhasa were ransacked.
"The violence, involving beating, smashing, looting and burning, has disrupted the public order and jeopardised people's lives and property,'' Xinhua quoted the Tibetan official as saying.
The protests, which spread outside Tibet into other areas of China, came amid a growing international campaign by Tibetans to challenge Beijing's rule of the Himalayan region ahead of the Olympic Games in August..

ok I know this is kinda gross, but there is an incest couple in South Australia (a daughter and a father) and they had a kid who is nine months old and healthy. They had a kid before, but she passed away from congenital disease (I think it has something to do with the heart?) and now they have pleaded guilty to charges of incest... So basically, their kid has a father figure who is both a father and a grandfather, if that makes sense. Which is just weird. They're asking the people of Australia not to judge, but I can't help but feel that it's sick. This is one news article: news.ninemsn.com.au/article.aspx?id=443023

I guess you've heard about the similar story in Austria... A father had imprisoned and raped his daughter for 24 years and they had 7 children! He raised three of the children with his wife and the other three children (one died at birth) lived with their mother locked in the basement!!! It's just so horrible...

I was reading the newspaper and found a news on the rest of the lost childrens of the zar nicholas II. DNA tests have solved the mystery by identifying bone shards found in a forest as those of Alexei and his sister, Grand Duchess Maria. During school i was fascinated by the Romanov family I guess this puts a rest to the mystery.

yes it is! and I so cannot believe her mother didn't know about it.... I have serious trouble believing the mother didn't know... I find it too odd... I mean, the guy even went on sex-trips to Asia, so there had to be someone who took care of the woman and her children while he was abroad... And how in God's name don't you realize that your daughter, or anyone for that matter, is living in your basement?!?!... I just don't buy that crap of the mother not knowing...

Of course no one should believe that the mother of this woman didn't know. I think that she is just as guilty as the man who imprisoned his daughter because she did nothing to stop it happening.

exactly. I know he told stories about his daughter being in a sect/cult or something... but still, didn't she have questions when those kids suddenly turned up? I find that hard to believe.. or maybe his wife just isn't that smart.. or something..

I heard about this story, too. I thought the same thing about the mother "not knowing". That is crazy! There is no way she couldn't have known!

About the mother I've read that very often wives whose husbands rape their children often kind of isolated the knowledge of it because they don't want to believe it, it's like a psychological thing. But I agree with you guys, how can you not know that your daughter is in the basement for 24 years?
But that wasn't why I went in here today. I just read that the actor who plays Marcus Belby in the next Harry Potter movie was stabbed to death last night, he was like 18 years old I think. So sad!
