This is the sort of thing that makes a learning nerd like me completely jazzed: I just found out MIT has a large selection of free courses online. Life-long learners from around the world can continue their quest for self-education at their own pace. I haven't had a chance to explore this much yet, but so far it looks awesome. I'm less than a year out of college, and I already miss the excitement of learning in a college class structure. Here's the link: ocw.mit.edu/index.html

It does look awesome, I only wish I had time to add more to my workload. I'm starting to wish there were extra days in the week! At the moment though I'm really looking for a course in shorthand somewhere, my university doesn't offer it and I'm looking for a competitive edge against the thousands of other university students who want to be journalist, the Sydney Morning Herald cadet applications open in July/August and I will be competing against thousands of people for about five positions So maybe they will have one, I'll have to check it out, thank's for the link. If they don't have shorthand I will definately pick something else up when my schedule frees.

Shorthand is a written language that uses symbols and abbreviation type things so that you can write at the speed of hearing. It's great for notes and it used to be essential for secretaries who had letters dictated to them. I think it looks sort of like arabic writing, but it is a great way to get as much down as possible. The symbols are for whole words, so in that aspect, it's like chinese characters, but they don't look Chinese.

Yeah, I did a search for one by correspondence or online tutorials last night, but there seem to be none anywhere without going to classes in like Melbourne or something. Which is weird since my teacher said my local TAFE offers it.
A lot of reporters use it when they don't have a tape recorder

Ah, Steno In Germany there are so-called adult education centres though they aren´t for adults only. They offer shorthand and typing courses. I took two semesters of Spanish a couple of years ago.

Looks cool. I'm looking to learn web design and DTP things, wonder if there's online courses for that... I'm not sure if MIT has online classes for that sort of stuff, but I know there are some out there - free too. My mom knows the links, I'll ask her to email them to me.

That's awesome! Ugh, why didn't I know about this earlier?! I'm very tempted to download a class or two, something in the Humanities like anthropology, because I have more than enough science as it is..
