To be fair, I don't think any teacher could make you like The Sorrows of Young Werther, what a terrible, terrible book!! lol I absolutely agree! Nobody of my class managed to tell our teacher that the most of us hated that book..she had spent months saying that it was on of her favourite books ever!

I'm not a lot into science fiction too, but I usually like novels set in dystopic societies, they have something that make me easily got into the book...can't say what. I love Fahrenheit451! It's one of my favourite novels. I saw the movie at school, about 12 years ago, and I pretty liked it. I decided to read the book because my teacher talked about it after watching the movie and it was really very interesting. I also read Heart Of Darkness, I can't say I liked it so much but it was ok. Anyway I'm sure I wouldn't have liked it if I would have to read it for school! I loved the book too!!! I've only read it because it was one of the bookclub-books. I'm not really a sience-fiction kind of girl but I liked that one!!

My worst book ever is the book where the movie 'confessions of a teenage dramaqueen' is based on: man, that was crap!

Have I ever mentioned that I hated A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man by James Joyce?? I think it's one of the worst books I've ever read.

I hated A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man, it was so terrible. Especially when I expected it to be good.

I finished A Separate Peace not too long ago. I didn't hate it, but I wasn't really impressed either.

I think I would have liked it if I had read it in high school. I'm going to pass it along to my seventeen-year-old brother and see what he thinks. Sometimes I wonder if I would would have felt the same way about the books I read in high school if I read them for the first time now, i.e. Catcher in the Rye. The time of your life when you first read a book totally affects how you feel about it, at least I think so.

I haven't read any Joyce, but I did read part of something of his, maybe your hated book , that was in a school textbook. It was very lengthy and the style was a little weird for me. So I can see how the rest of his work could be the same I've read Dubliners in English Lit class and I think it wasn't so bad. In my school text there was also an extract from Ulysses, it has a very very weird style, I found it pretty hard to understand...I think I will read the whole book one day...but first, I want to forgive how awful is Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man.

I actually hate howards end... by ehm.. E. something Forrester.. (I think.. ) I thought it would be a nice book, but I started reading it.. and I just read.. I didn't know what was happening.. so somewhere in the middle I just stopped.. I didn't know what was happening in the story, so I was just wasting my time... in my opinion.. maybe I should give it another try when it's not the middle of the summer vacation...
