I think one of the worst books I've read is "Naive.Super" by Norwegian author Erlend Loe. I feel weird in hating it though, because I only know one other person who does, everybody else seems to love it. Maybe I just have to read it again

I can't say I hated it but I really didn't like a very famous Italian novel:I don't know if there is a translation of it...anyway the Italian title is "I promessi sposi", it's set in Italy in the XVII century and it's about a love story And the horrible thing is that they made you read it at school so you are forced to read because then they test you on it!!!!!

I totally know what you mean juliet, we read it for an entire school year...this is the best way to make someone dislike a book, I think. i was so sick of Manzoni then, that I've never read anything by him. I think the english translation of "Promessi Sposi" is "The Betrothed".

Thanks Lu!I really hoped that this was something of the Italian culture that we didn't import !My teacher unfortunately made us read almost everything my him...in fact after high school I had a period in which I abandoned Italian literature, some sort of rejection I guess!!! I'm glad to hear that I'm not the only one !!!

You're definitely not alone, I know other people who would agree with you After 7 years, I'm vaguely starting to consider the idea of reading something else by Manzoni...

I've stopped considering the idea after my parents have accidentally reminded me of Manzoni's lyric "5 maggio"..

;D....Oh my God!!"Il 5 maggio"...another Italian nightmare!!!!I still remember when I had to earn it by heart!!! Nightmare is the perfect word to describe it! I had to learn it by heart when I was 10 and I still remeber a lot of lines and my mother still does too...I think we will never get rid of that lyric! And we will never forget Napoleon's date of death as well.

i tried watching the movie and it freaked me out. Needless to say I didn't try reading the book eiter. Morrison's books are a bit strange. We had to read Song of Solomon for school and some of the stuff in there was kind of disturbing!! LOL

As I Lay Dying by William Faulkner is really annoying and horrible because I dont understand one bit of it and I have to read it for school but I wouldnt like it anyway.

I found As I Lay Dying quite a challenging book, but in the end I liked it. Mainly because I used Spark Notes regularly to interpret what was going on! ;D

The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. I know it's an American classic, but I didn't like it at all.
