I like Rothko too: I personally don't enjoy this kind of art, the more modern art. Mostly because, for example this picture, I could do myself and what's amazing about that? (I don't mean to offend anyone who likes modern art...)
Like others, I like Monet and The Starry Night. I like landscapes more than portraits, definitely. Here's one of my favourite "landscapes" that is in the Toledo Museum of Art (the closest one to me). It's called The Architect's Dream by Thomas Cole, 1840 (it would probably look much different if The Architect's Dream were painted now):

I like landscape more than portraits as well. I've never seen the one you posted before, I like it, mostly because I like the use of perspective in painting.

I just like it because it's a view of so many wonderful things, and the artist put them all together. If one were to paint the current architect's dream, it would have stuff like the Eiffel Tower or the Sydney Opera House...some more modern buildings. It would be interesting to see, I think.

I was in Paris a couple of weeks ago and went to the Musee d'Orsay. Renoir quickly became a favorite while I was over there, and seeing the painting he did of two girls leaning over a piano was wonderful.
