I just got inspired to write a quick thread about how I think everyone on these boards is completely awesome.
I joined about a month ago, and I've had so much fun reading the threads and having conversations on them with all of you. Everyone is so well read and we all have such unique interests....I've learned so much and been exposed to so many cool things! (Additionally, my TBR list has grown by a foot! awesome!)
The only other message board I've ever been a part of was several years ago, and it was mostly girls who all were catty and rude to each other... and rude to new people who joined. People got downright nasty on the posts about controversial subjects. I think it's awesome that even on the Abortion thread we all have varying views but can all discuss it civilly and have respect for other people's views and opinions.
I also think it's really awesome how diverse we are....how many different parts of the globe are represented. (Also, the people who speak English as a second language are AMAZING! I hope to get even half as good at other languages someday!)
I've had such a fun time so far, and am looking forward to continuing! You are all fantastic!

I agree, apart from the old wb boards every other forum I've been a member of are full of very bitchy people. The political board on a music forum I used to visit is basically an excuse for people to fight with eachother and it's very petty.
I feel this site is going really well so far, and I agree that it's great having people from so many different cultures involved and getting to hear about their perspectives and lives.
The amount of new books/movies I hear about on here that sound awesome are way too many for me to ever get through lol!
Congrats rorys book club

Yeah, we rock!!
I think I wrote something similar when we started talking about religion - I was amazed that people with different backgrounds and points of view could come together and talk about such a touchy subject in such an open, friendly manner. It's pretty awesome that I can discuss with you guys things I would never talk about with my work colleagues, for example.
I'm gonna be away all of next week and I'm already starting to think about how I'm gonna miss y'all!

I'm really enjoying the book club. It's the first website I check in the morning, and I continually check it in the day. I think everyone is amazine, and has me interested in so many books. I'm going to be graduating soon, and it's great to know that I'll have a place to keep coming to to read about great books. I like that it's a diverse group, and everyone is so nice!

That´s so true! Most people on boards are pretty weird and they are so quick to take offence but this board is really interesting with the great discussions we have and so many recommendations for books that I have never heard of before. I check this site as regularly as my mail account and it´s always fun to read the new posts.

i love this thread. period. haha i love the diversity. thank you all of you who can speak english since i, as an american, cannot speak another language. (quote: "a person who can speak 3 languages is trilingual, a person who can speak 2 languages is bilingual, a person who can speak 1 language is american.") and i also love how we never fight about the hot topics and respect each other's viewpoints. and thank you for teaching me about canada/germany/australia (those are the majorities i believe). love ya girls!

Yay! 100 members party ;D The quote is really funny but of course Americans are not the only people who don´t learn other languages. I´m just into it and English is a must here.

I´m working on my French. The pronunciation seems alright but the grammar! Guess I´ll have to read more books in French. Did you read any easy reader books in school for that class you could recommend?

I still have a hard time writing french...I think I always will. French writing is hard, i know french people who have problems with it. Bescherelle has a good Grammaire, Othographe, and Vocabulaire book.

There's a free french podcast on itunes that is pretty good. I just started it somewhat recently to bring back the French I learned in high school, so I'm still on the basics, but it's very good so far. It's very in-depth, and also includes worksheets, exercises , and books in french to practice. The best part is that it's free!
I don't know if the same podcasts are available in other country's itunes stores, but it's worth looking into.
