Yeah, in my book there's 3 parts. That confused me a little with the schedule.

Oy, that's because my book only had the first 11 Chapters. How long are parts 2 and 3?

Jefie, if you still have the schedule I sent you, it has the parts divided up. I can't remember how long each section I chose was, but I tried to make them all as close as possible.

Whoa, that's a bit confusing... How about we do:
Chapters 1 to 4: Start posting on August 8 Chapters 5 to 7: Start posting on August 18 Chapters 8 to 11: Start posting on August 28 And for those who have it, Parts 2 & 3: Start posting on September 4.
If I understand correctly, Chapter 11 is Chapter 1 of Part 2, so the last section would start with Chapter 2 of Part 2. Is that OK for everyone?

Hmm...this is so confusing. I think that my first part has 11 chapters. But that schedule sounds good.

I was a little confused but it sounds good to me now Mine has 11 chapters in the first part and five chapters in the second part but the last one is called "[chapter...]".

Okay, I made a mistake. My book has 2 parts. Sorry if that really confused anybody. And I have 11 chapters in the first part. And my second part has only 4 chapters (the back of the book says that Gogol destroyed most of the second part).
***Since some of you have only the first part, I checked www.gutenberg.org and it has the whole book online. The ending on there is the same as the ending in my book. www.gutenberg.org/catalog/world/readfile?fk_files=37203&pageno=156 If you click that link, it should take you to the page of the online book that Part 2 starts on.

Are we still on for posting tomorrow on the first 4 chapters? I've finished them and can discuss now or later

I'm done with the first part as well, so I'm going to start.
I'm really enjoying Gogol's prose style, and the satirical/absurd tone he uses. I've read some short stories by Gogol before (for school)but I've never been particularly impressed by his style...maybe I haven't payed enough attention, since I've read them for school. ;D
The very first page is my favorite part so far, I loved how it introduces the main character as a very normal person, owning a normal carriage and so on, but giving the impression that something strange and unusual is going to be revealed about him. It's great how author describes Chichikov's way to make a good impression on society and to please everyone.
I've read in the introduction that Gogol wanted to emulate Odyssey by Homer, I think it's too soone to say if he managed but I think it's a good beginning.
I'm so curios to read what is going to happen after protagonist's narrow escape from Nozdrvov's house, what kind of landowners Chichikov is going to meet and their reactions to his strange request for dead souls.
