hmmm I got my book today and I'm a bit confused... it has 2 parts.. the first part is (I guess) the book 'dead souls' it self, and the second part is supposed to be what was published after his death... so is that also part of the story? I have no idea! But I think teh first part is dead souls, because it has 11 chapters..

I was afraid to be too late for the discussion (I've already missed the Reading Lolita In Teheran one ) but I'm glad to hear you haven't started it yet. The schedule for August sounds good to me. Thanks!

From memory when I researched it for my background post the first part was published in a magazine before he died and the second part was published post humously. I think they were all supposed to be published together but weren't. Gogol destroyed the final part of the story before his death. So yeah I'd say both parts are Dead Souls. That could be inaccurate but I can't be bothered looking it up again but if you have a look in wikipedia it should tell you.

I've had no luck finding this book in my city, the library doesn't carry it, none of the book stores carry it. Anyways, in case anyone else is having this problem, I found the free text here: www.gutenberg.org/etext/1081I know it's not the same, but it can be a good alternative.

The new dates are great! Now I have some time to find a copy and start on it.
Thanks for the link, Hazy! If I can´t find the book I can still participate.
