I'm looking for a good French book, but I don't want it too hard. It's been awhile since I read any French books. Any suggestions?

The stuff by Eric-Emmanuel Schmitt is pretty good, e.g. "Hôtel des deux mondes" or "Oscar et la Dame rose". His works always include philosophical issues (life, death etc.) which are treated in a very enjoyable way and his books are not too difficult.

L'étranger by Albert Camus is very good. It's not THAT easy to read, but my French is far away from being perfect and I understood nearly everything. Le Désert by Jean-Marie Gustave Le Clézio is very nice to read, too.

Oh right, why didn't I think of L'Etranger, I just read it a few weeks ago. It's really good and easy to understand.

If you're interested in reading a classic I would recommend Radiguet's Le Diable au Corps - not too long, fairly easy to read and a great story!

I'd definately recommend L'etranger, but I also really liked Candide. It's not too difficult to read, though I couldn't understand every word.
