Has anyone ever gone into a book store, stayed there all day, and read without buying anything? I do it during the summer when I'm bored. Ahh...entertainment without spending a penny.

Nope, I would love to but I have never done it.
Sounds like a challenge!

the book stores here are quite small, I'm pretty sure one of the staff members would come and tell me off if I just hung around reading. At one of the local newsagents the owner follows you around and trys to stop you reading without buying so maybe I'm naturally wary of doing that anywhere because of him.

There are too small bookstores here so I've never tried to do that but I think the staff members would tell me of! It would be fun to hear what they would tell me..

Yeah, I guess it only works in big book stores like Barnes & Noble, Borders, etc. The ones that have the big comfy chairs!

The old British guy with the big moustache that owns the bookshop scares the hell out of me! So, the answer for me is no. But I can't spend hours in the library. The biggest one in my city has six floors of book delights But I love one of the other libraries too, it's very small, and my mom is the only person who works there. A small heaven. I could imagine this being a new kind of question thread: Have you ever... slept under the stars? Hehe. Nevermind, my feet are frozen. (It snowed!!!!)

I have been known to do that, both in libraries and book stores. I'll give myself a time limit, like "I'll go after I look at this book", but before I know it I've started reading or found something else I want to look at.

I did that once, but only for like 2 hours when I had time to kill... There was a really comfy reading area with an electric fireplace and everything... I actually finished reading Fahrenheit 451 there, because I forgot to bring my copy, so I picked it out and started reading where I left off

As many of the others said, the bookstores are too small in my city. Well, now that my Waldenbooks closed, all I have is a used bookstore/coffee place that has many books but no organization of them whatsoever. There's a store about 15 miles north of me at a big store complex that is absolutely huge and has big seats and everything. I've only been there a couple times, and the prices aren't bad since it's so big. But I don't go there often...

I could imagine this being a new kind of question thread: Have you ever... slept under the stars? Hehe. Nevermind, my feet are frozen. (It snowed!!!!) I think that would be a really cool idea for a thread! We could put it in the General Board though. I'll set it up with your question...

I have sat and read in Borders or Barnes & Noble before. Our library is fairly small (but the librarians know me by heart!) but I love to go and read magazines there. It's great. I love magazines and they always have recent issues as well as back issues!

I have never done it, but it sounds like fun. lol. We have a Barnes and Noble nearby and people to it all the time. I'll have to try it this summer!
