I read it over the holidays and loved it! I like how the author drew on her own personal tragedy to write a novel that's so beautiful and powerful.
Did you know Peter Jackson (of LotR fame) was working on a movie based on The Lovely Bones?

I really enjoyed reading this book. It was so different from anything I've ever read before! Right before reading it, my cousin passed away from cancer and I think this book helped me because it gave me a realistic happy view of someone I know in heaven. I do think though that the story Sebold explains in her autobiography Lucky (haven't read this yet, but know what it's about) is the story of Susie. So really Lovely Bones is what could've happened to Sebold, but Lucky is what actually did.

I didn't like the book. I think it was the style, and I found that there was lack of plot. I'm sure that was intentional but it wasn't a great book in my opinion. I know a lot of people said they loved it, but I could not get into the novel. I should try Lucky tho.

i really loved the book. i liked the style as well. it was really quite interesting. i remember when i was younger and i read this, i thought the beginning was scary so i stopped reading it for a time. but then i really wanted to find out how it ended so i had to read it again. i really enjoyed it though and i would recommend it to anyone

I loved this book! I read it a couple of years ago in about two days because I was hooked. I think that was the only book I ever cried about in the end actually.

I think that what I liked the most about the story is that it wasn't a "fluffy" vision of the afterlife, and Sebold wasn't trying to force some kind of moral down your throat (which is what I didn't like about Albom's Five people you meet in heaven). In The Lovely Bones, Susie is just there, looking down on her family that is tearing apart, and there is nothing she can do about it. It was so moving!

I really liked the author's vision of heaven and what it was like, I thought that was very different. But as a whole I only really thought the book was ok, I would have liked more about what heaven was like I think. I thought the book got a bit bogged down about a third of the way through. That said I did enjoy it, just not as much as I expected. Maybe that was the problem, my expectations were high after hearing how good it was.

I think my expectations were really high, and I wanted more from the book.

I can understand that, high expectations have often ruined books for me...

I hate that. But I´m mostly so embarrassed that I´m reading bestsellers that my approach is a bit cynical I really liked the lovely bones, the matter-of-fact way Susie watches her family and puts together her bones.
