I used to think I was like Anne Shirley. Now I think she's just the person I wanted to be, same with Elizabeth Bennett. Now I think I'm more like Lyra from the "His Dark Materials" trilogy. when I first read the dark materials trilogy I really identified myself with Lyra too...

Lena and Bridget from the book 'The sisterhood of the traveling pants' by Anne Brashares.Lena because most of the time I'm really quiet and shy.Bridget because I can be very suprisingly sporty and not so shy anymore. I haven't read the book in a long time but I know that I identifed me the most with these characters. And last but not least: Blair Waldorf from the Gossip Girl serie. I'm not that good looking, but Blair kind of messes everything up in the book and she is a romantic and everything has to go like her way. That's also just so tipically for me ... I agree with the Lena, Bridget thing! I am a lot like that too. I'm a lot more like Bridget, though.

I'm reading Mansfield Park by Jane Austen right now and I have to think that, had I ever been in the situation with Fanny being pressed by everyone to marry Henry Crawford, I would act just as she did. Truth be told, I haven't got far enough to know that she refuses him once and for all and he accepts his refusal, but I would never marry for anything less than love. I'm glad that nowadays prosperous marriage isn't "required" (for lack of a better word) for women. I'm glad that anyone can marry for love (well, almost everyone...I think same-sex marriage should be allowed) and it doesn't necessarily matter on what connections and money one will get from it. So, I agree with Fanny Price--marry for love, not for everyone else.

I liked Jo from Little Women. My three sisters and I used to play Little Women, and I was always Jo, because of age and because I loved to read/write.

If i could only remember the characters of "Anne of Green Gables" and "Little Women" I might be able to connect and say something very inspired about my personality compared to theirs.
But I forget so: I'm reading "Anna Karenina" right now and I'm really identifying with Kitty because she was torn between two men (not that I have EVER been in that position) and was realizing that her whole life depended on this. Maybe it was just Tolstoy's writing that made me connect with her, but, right then, I was THERE and I WAS Kitty and I could understand and sympathize with.

In the book Testament of Youth by Vera Brittain I definitely related to the main character. Her fiance went off to fight in the first world war and my husband went to operation enduring freedom in Afghanistan. She had many of the same feelings that i did, having a loved one at war. Anxiety, fear, and many others that you can't explain and only someone that's been in the same position can understand. I read this book at exactly the right time and it helped me through some of the really tough times.
