Wow, that is so interesting, Oureternity! I didn't know you were a soldier. So, what is your job in the military? Are you allowed to answer that? I would love to answer that question, lol, but sadly I can't I'm an Intelligence soldier, that's why. If I was in the air force or something I guess I could tell you shortly what I'm doing but there's no way I could describe my job without telling you something I shouldn't say! Keeping my job secret sucks, my parents don't know what I'm doing too, but that's what makes it interesting I guess. And yeah the army has a LOT of influence on what happens in our country, we hear about it constantly in the news, it's involved with almost anything politic that's relevant inside the country.

And yeah halie that's exactly how I feel, like I'm fighting for freedom. Don't get me wrong I don't always agree with everything the army does but the main purpose of it serves my own purpose which is protecting practically my own family and country. I would love it if we actually got our freedom, that's what we want in the end but right now the Israeli army is more like a way of protecting the citizens and protecting our land, not having it entirely for ourselves. A lot of people despise the army because it doesn't symbol peace, not war. All I can say is we all wish there was peace here but right now it's almost impossible so instead of finding ways of bonding with our enemies (which seems hopeless) we protect ourselves. That is true for my country, I don't know what its like in other countries but I'm pretty sure that if I live elsewhere I wouldn't be pro-army.

Here's the answer I gave in the other thread, more or less: I used to have a really good opinion of the Canadian army back when all we did were peacekeeping missions. I thought the job that these men and women did deserved a lot of respect and was not well recognized. People used to laugh at the Canadian army back then, saying we didn't have much of a real army, when really I think we did an amazing job in countries where no one else wanted to go because there were little to no economic interests - it really was for the good and safety of the people living in chaos. Now that we're at war in Afghanistan, I'm definitely not as proud as I used to be of our politicians and of the military in general. I really don't get that more people are interested in joining the army now that we're at war, and to be honest it makes it hard for me to support our troops. That level of interest sort of warrants the government's decision to leave our troops in Afghanistan. My opinion is that people in the military chose to do this job knowing what was involved and obviously fighting overseas is something they were interested in. It's not something I condemn, but it's not something I'm going to praise either. I hope I'm not offending anyone, it's just my personal opinion. I agree with your opinion Isa. And I'd love if we don't need military. We used to have consciption in Italy but it ended few years ago, with those born in 1985. Anyway, most of the guys I know were conscience objectors and chose civilian service. I haven't a clear opinion of conscription, I think civilian service was very very useful...but that's probably because I'm a woman and I didn't have to do military service.
