Post your suggestions for a contemporary novel. To get the ball rolling, I'm gonna start with some of my previous suggestions:
- The View From Castle Rock by Alice Munro - The History of Love by Nicole Krauss - Bel Canto by Ann Patchett - The Memory Keeper's Daughter by Kim Edwards - Slumdog Millionaire (also published as Q&A) by Vikas Swarup

I would love to read Bel Canto or Q&A--they've both been on my list for some time.
I'd also like to suggest Love in the Time of Cholera. I have been reading some of Gabriel Garcia Marquez's shorter works--Memories of My Melancholy Whores and Story of a Shipwrecked Sailor--and I love his style of writing and would love to read this one.

I like Bel Canto, The View from Castle Rock and Memory Keeper's Daughter. I also like Life in the Time of Cholera but wonder if it's too long?
My suggestions: White Tiger by Aravind Adiga The Art of Racing in the Rain by Garth Stein
And I'm drawing a blank on any other book I want to read that also seems good for a discussion.

I just bought Bel Canto and I've wanted to read it for some time now. I'd also like to read Love in the Time of Cholera or Q&A.

From the suggestions I think I like The View from Castle Rock the best. I can't think of anything to suggest myself right now, I might come up with something later

I'm not sure I'd be able to partecipate, anyway I like all your suggestions, especially The White Tiger (I saw it at library and it looks good) and something by Gabriel Garcia Marquez.

I would like to read My Sister's Keeper by Jodi Picoult because I already have it.

Just some more suggestions: The Road by Cormac McCarthy could be cool. Another contemporary book on my tbr at the moment is The Elegance of the Hedgehog by Muriel Barbery. It's number 9 of the New York Times Best Sellers paper back list this week and has just been translated into English from the original French version. It's about an unlikely friendship between a hotel concierge and a precocious little girl. But I think I'd like to give most of the suggestions a try anyway

I think it would be really good book for book club and because I'm basically finished with it, this would be probably the first time I'd finish the book club book in time. I usually start reading the book club books with you, but finish them a month later.

I think I've heard about that book. I've never seen it anywhere though. It seems good.

I read The Road and I think it would be a good book to discuss. Also I've been wanting to read The Elegance of the Hedgehog for ages and I'm going to check it out from library as soon as it returns. My mom liked it a lot.
