No, she wasn't included in the first movie. I liked the character of Rebecca in the movie, but again I found it a bit disappointing that they moved away from the original story so much. Fielding's Rebecca was based on Austen's Louisa Musgrove, and Louisa did not have the hots for Ann Elliot, lol!

Ok, now i think BJD may actually influence my reading and viewing of PAP and Persuassion, when really it should be the other way around! Next thing you know, i'll have Lizzie drinking vodka with Charlotte, who is swearing off her head, and then they both state how they shall never become "singletons" hehe!

I've finished BJD yesterday, I liked it. It's so funny! I can't think I had decided not to read it simply because of the person I heard saying it was good...I shall not behave like that in future. I think BJD book is really better than the movie. It's hilarious how Bridget changes her mind in 2 or 5 minutes. ;D I also like the characters and all references to P&P.

It is extremely cute and I loved that an American actress was able to pull off the role of a Brit so amazingly!!

Did anyone else think that Perpetua in BJD book is more annoying that in the movie?? Probably it's just because she doesn't appear as much as in the book. I was also wondering if she's based on any of Jane Austen's characters...

Yeah she was!! And I'm not sure, I can't come up with any characters she could base her on.

In a way, Magda reminds me of Anne Elliot's sister, Mary Musgrove, in the way that she always wants to be away from her children because they're such a hassle. Charles Musgrove didn't cheat on Mary like Jeremy did to Magda, but the children factor seems similar. And Magda/Mary really like having Bridget/Anne around to listen to them complain. But I like Magda more than Mary.

I'm reading Bridget Jones The Edge of Reason and I'm enjoying it so much, it's sooo funny , a lot more than the movie actually! and I love all the similarities with Persuasion! (I loved Persuasion as well). You're right Kristie, Magda reminds me of Anne's sister too. I laughed my head off when Bridget was "waiting for the dustbin to ring" lol hilarious!

I can see Magda/Mary parallels for sure, but yes, i definately prefer Magda... she doesn't 'use' Bridget like Mary seems to do. For some reason, Perpetua makes me think of a combination of Mrs Bennet and Mrs Elton from Emma....

A bit of an OT snippet but just read an interview with Colin Firth about his role in the new St Trinians film. Apparently he gets to boot a dog called Mr Darcy out a window at one point. I also didn't realise the second Bridget Jones book was based on Persuasion!
