I bought it yesterday, but I have to wait until I finish the last 200 pages of the Book Thief before I can start it.

I've just started this and I'm halfway through the second chapter. You're right Kristie it is really interesting how titles of books are the names of chapters that mirror something in the book. Right away Blue has such a strong voice, the writing is really interesting and engaging, full of cultural references. At this stage it's interesting how her mother died and that she thinks it may have been suicide and that her friend has commited suicide, seems like it will be a strong theme. Also it's like she doesn't quite fit in with her dad (who seems a bit insufferable) with his extreme academicness and who seems somewhat arogant and self absorbed, but she doesn't fit in with her peers either and describes talking to them as "paper-doll pleasantries". From the introduction she seems to look down on them quite a bit. That feeling of being somewhat seperate to everyone else is something I can relate to and I'm sure a lot of other people can too.
Anyway yeah I'm really enjoying it so far.

lol I'm starting to picture her dad as Rex Harrison as Henry Higgins in My Fair Lady. The way he seems kind of arogant and pretentious but sort of well meaning, and the way he loves to wax lyrical about everything is starting to really remind me of that character.

Ok I'm about 200 pages in, and I'll try to say this without giving away too much for the other people reading it at the moment. I like this book so far, but I can't decide how much yet, sometimes I think it's great and other time's I think it's maybe not as great as it's been made out to be. Often the language and the writing is really strong, but I don't know maybe I get a bit sick of the highly intellectual culture references after awhile, they can become a bit condescending or too high brow or arogant or something. I liked them at first though, I guess that's the trouble with sustaining a first person perspective for quite a long time in a unique way.
Where Pessl is going to go with Hannah is intriguing though. It's so sad how she takes such an interest in the group of teenagers but to them she seems more a mystery to be solved, a type of entertainment rather than a friend.

I think I'm getting into it more now, I tend to go through a it's ok I guess phase after I've gotten about 100 pages in with some of the 500 page length books. Sometimes I think it's because I've just read all the detail and developing characters stuff with not much happening.

I'm kinda where you are Dominique...can't decide if I like it or not. But I think just where I've thought it might just drag on and on I think it is going to pick up...yay! And the Hannah character is SO intriguing...I don't really know where it's gonna go.

it gets better as you go I think, stick with it I've still got about 200 pages to go. I agree the Hannah character really is interesting. I think a lot of people know women who are similar to Hannah in that there's something about them that draws people to them, but also something about their personality that's impossible to figure out at the same time. It's interesting to think about

I started reading it on Sunday morning and I am somwhere around page 90 right now. I like it so far, although I think the language is kind of strange sometimes. All these biological references are confusing. But I love the book-titles. It's not available in german yet, but since I work in a bookstore I got a free copy last week already!
