Hi everyone! I would like to know how you started reading. Have you always loved to read? Did you have a certain teacher that sparked your love? Did your parents or grandparents read a lot? Or whatever your story is, I'd like to know!
I've always been around books. My grandmother, particularly, was always reading. My mom and dad read to me a lot when I was little too. One of my favorite memories is of my dad reading me Mary Poppins and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang as bedtime stories.

I've always loved to read. When I was a kid, my mom would read bedtime stories for me, and I would always ask for one more and one more, until she decided that it would be easier to teach me how to read (she was an elementary school teacher back then). I was about 3 at that time, so I'd say I've been reading on my own since I was 4. The public library was just down the hill from my house so I'd make the trip several times a week to get 5 new books to read. It's just always been a really important part of my life

I read a lot when I was younger.. so I guess it grew on me.. I don't really have a good history of me reading but I always liked getting books and reading them

My mum used to read me before I went sleep. Most of my family and friends read, so I guess I followed them. I had trouble with writing when I was younger and reading made it little bit easier.
This isn't actually a reason, but I think that Rory's book club has made me enjoy reading even more.

Seeing other people be excited about things you are excited about makes it even more exciting! I know I am a late joiner, but I am glad to have found this place.

My parents read to me a lot. My mom is a stay at hom mom, so we always had a lot of time to just read. Of course, she read to me in Polish, but when I was little I was so upset that I didn't know how to read that I cried and begged my mom to teach me to read. I didn't really learn, but I memorized a book and that made me feel better, haha. I don't know. I've always liked listening to books, and reading them on my own. One of my teachers said it's one of those rare gifts some people get, loving to read. So everyone here should be really glad they like to read because most people don't.
I did notice last summer, though, that my grandma reads a lot too, as does my mom, so I guess it's just a thing that some people in my family catch onto. Like my Aunt doesn't read, and neither does my brother.

I've always loved reading. My parents and my grandparents used to read me a lot when I was a kid, also they talked me about books they enjoyed and so I got very curios about them. I'm still looking for some of the books my grandma mentioned. I remember my mom used to talk me a lot of Little Women, which is one the very first books I asked for when I learnt how to read. Plus, my brother is 3 years older and seeing he could read made me even more eager to be able myself...I guess it was sort of frustrating, haha. I think that's why I learnt how to read very quickly at school (at least, that's what my parents say). I know what you mean annak, I memorized some short stories too, lol, it made me feel a lot better I used to enjoy listening to audiobooks and read them myself too, especially after my brother read by himself.

I don't know really. I think I've always liked it and it's just progressed from there. I remember when I was really young I used to love reading kids books and I used to love it when my mum would buy me new ones. Then I think I used to just spend hours reading Nancy Drew, The Baby Sitter's Club and Goosebumps etc when I was a bit older for entertainment. We used to only have one television between five people so it was kind of one of my main forms of entertainment.

I've always liked to read, I actually learned to read by myself before I even started 1st grade. I've been a member of my library since forever, and I used to go to my mom at least once a month to get a bunch of books and read. Then there was a little break from reading, and in high school my English teacher recommended me a lot of good books, I think all I really needed were good recommendations and I was up on that reading wave again!

My parents used to read a lot to me/us when we were kids. My mom would read children's books by Anne Cath Vestly or Astrid Lindgren and my dad would read Tolkien and C.S. Lewis. Every Friday I would ride my bike to the neighbor town after school and meet up with my mom and younger brother and we'd borrow a ton of books, and then next Friday we returned the ones from previous week and borrow a new ton. It was amazing. I was also kind of a loser as a kid, I got picked on a lot at school, and didn't really have too many to be with, so in breaks at school I'd just find a corner and be with Anne, Diana and Gilbert, Oliver Twist or someone else in my book world. Gilmore Girls and this bookclub has also sparked my love of reading even more:D I'd go crazy if I couldn't escape into another world sometimes!

I've always loved reading. My dad taught me when I was 4 and I have been reading nonstop since then. I'm not really sure where it came from. Just natural inclination I guess.

Well, as a baby/little kid, my mom would read to me, and I would just sit and listen contently. I also learned to read on my own in preschool, when I was four. I think that, like Michelle just said, it was always a natural thing for me to love to read.

I've always loved reading, since I can remember. Before I could read, my mum read a lot of books to me. Other than my mum and grandmother, no one else I know reads much (or at all) so that's always been our thing... Joining this bookclub was also very important. It's so nice to talk with others who share the same love for books!
