I looked it up on Amazon.com but I found only one result that was unavailable. So I still don't know what it's about either, but I'm curious.

It´s about the guerrillas in Czechoslov. during second World War . They are fighting against german soldiers and it started to be rude and unpleasant. So one of the generals,Engelchen, is sent to find and kill them. The way they try to hide, protect themselves and as well protect people who helped them is thrilling. But when they realize, germans perfectly know where they are, they try to lure them to the forests and they let the village ,they were hiding in, without a protection. Just few days later they find out the village was burnt to the ground . Then there are some other fights and then a liberation. The main chacarter ends up in hospital and he ´s thinking about what has happened. The book is really amazing, even if the content sounds bad. Its the way the narrator is talking about it. It was written when we were one of the socialistic republics and its sometimes visible in the book, but still the story is touching. I hope I havent discoraged you

I havent read that one...I heard his other works are weaker than Engelchen one.so I have no idea what it could be like.Take a risk and try that one. And please let me know if you like it or not.I´m curious, its not in our library.

Have anyone ever read something by Stefania Bertola? She's an italian writer. I read her "Biscotti e Sospetti", I like it! the story is quite simple and funny, nothing strange, I really like her style of writing!

That would be great, like our German literature list, thta should really be longer ! But I know we both prefer American literature, Dorothy.
