The other day I found a used Heidi book by Johanna Spyri, and inside it was written: "Christmas 1941, Love Berit." It kinda made me wonder who had gotten it, and if this Berit was a friend or relative, and stuff. I like inscriptions!

I like them too! I can't remember any off the top of my head, but I did buy a book, and after I had brought it home discovered an old $20 bill in it. I felt a little guilty because I'd only paid 50 cents for the book. One of those troublesome ethics moments.

Well, you can always use that $20 to buy books at that same store and then your ethic problem is solved ;D

in my first year of uni i bought a second-hand textbook of italian literature and inside i found a love letter! it was from a girl to a guy and it was quite sad:he had broke up with her and she wanted to tell him that she still loved him and that she always hoped that he changed his mind...i was with a friend and i remember thinking that i was not supposed to read it, it was just too personal...

i bought a used book recently "i never promised you a rose garden" i got it partly because its about a girl in a mental institution, but also because on the inside cover it read something similar to : " 1962 - to my new daughter, here's to starting a new life together love Karen". i read this and was amazed that someone would let this book go. but i started to think of all the reasons why the owner of the book would want to get rid of it. the book store had other copies of this book, but i purposely got this one with the personal inscription in it. for some reason it means alot to me; i think of it often

I haven't found many insciptions, exept for notes in the margin that students have written, like in my copy of Kristin Lavransdatter, but I remember one insription in the last page of a book (I don't remember the title, it may have been a screen play) in a very difficult hand to read. But it said someting like: Bought a cup of coffee and some news papers. A good day.

any day with a cup of coffee is a good day I concurr. So true. It's nice to read that someone had a good day though you don't know who and when. I like that inscription.

I bought some second-hand books today: - Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay and it has an address sticker inside (it belonged to someone called Elizabeth from Sheridan AR, the book has travelled quite a long way! ) and the second book I bought (Lord Jim by Joseph Conrad) has an interesting stamp inside. It says: "...th Sydney Book and Music Exchange 20 Denison St North Sydney Ph:9957 1880 Sell.....5,00.....50% trade back" At least to me that's interesting... And I thing it's great that I've got second-hand books from Australia and US!

I found an plane ticket from Raleigh Durham to Washington Reagan in my used copy of My Life in France. It's funny because I was just using a plane ticket as my bookmark in another book.

Lol. If ever my books end up in a second hand store I think people will find a lot of train tickets in them!
