Memccart, I don't like walking over those sewer grate things either. If I walk over one it's not as bad as getting out of my car and having to actually stand on it to get out and then shut the door--that's just too long to be standing still on something w/out getting off it

I don't know why this happens to me, but it only happens when I wake up in the middle of the night. For some reason, I will wake up and wonder if Nick, who's sleeping right next to me, is still breathing. So, I guess I'm scared he's going to die in his sleep. It only happens when I wake up, and I'm not even dreaming of anything when I wake up. I think this will be really a bad thing if it persists after we start having children--I'd be up how many times during the night and making sure they didn't somehow smother itself. I can't figure out why it's happening lately--it hasn't happened for very long.

Kristie, it kind of happened to me, too. When my cousin was few months old (about 8 years ago), I was sleeping in his bedroom and I remeber I woke up twice and checked if he was breathing. I particularly remeber that time because I have other three cousins younger than me and I had never worried like that before. Now it oftens happens when I sleep over at my grandma's, if I wake at night I must get up and go to her room to see if she's ok, that started after my grandpa died..so I've figured out that's the reason. I hope it'll get better, Kristie, waking up scared at night is awful.

I'm not sure if it happens this way all the time, but sometimes I notice it happens when Nick isn't feeling well before bed. Like if he has a headache or just feels "off"--those tend to be the nights I worry. I'm sure it'll get better--it's just a little weird, I think.

I think this thread is very interesting. I am afraid of needles and syringes. I once fainted when I tried to donate blood. It might have something to do with a time when I had to get several foot operations done that came with a lot of syringes. Anyway, I just try to avoid them and hope I'll never need any operations or infusions, I'm pretty sure I'd faint again. I am afraid of the dark. I like evenings when everything is dark but I am afraid of having to turn of the light at some point. I also feel strange looking into a mirror. Though I think that's just because mirrors appear in many horror movies with monsters jumping out or people seeing things differently in the mirror etc. And I know the feeling of waking up scared if everything's all right when my boyfriend is staying with me. I'm not sure where it is coming from, maybe it's just bad dreams.

I am afraid of needles and syringes too. I'm also afraid of seeing blood and I'll never get used to blood test. I think I'll begin to be scared at looking into a mirror now..

I'm not really afraid of needles (luckely), but I am afraid of really BIG spiders and snakes! And this summer my family was gone for three weeks and I had the house to myself, and I was sooo scared to sleep alone in the house! Every sound coming from downstairs made me think that there was a thief in the house or that there was someting wrong. I felt so stupid!

I don't like being alone in a big house either. I have no problems with being alone in an apartment, but in a big house, you never know what's going on on the other end.

I agree! I've been alone in an appartment, and I don't have problems with being there. But in a house, its too big to hear all of the sounds, especially if you sleep upstairs!
