Ok, so there won't be any Ancient Greek classes next semester. But I am going to sign up for an advanced Italian class that will start in April.

I can speak French (my mother tongue) and English. I want to re-catch up the level that I used to have in Dutch (which is actually a kind of "mother tongue" for me since my mother is dutch-speaking). During high school, I studied Latin (for six years) and Acient Greek (for five years). I would like to learn other languages such as German, Spanish or Italian... And maybe, something a little crazy : Russian (just for fun) . But for the moment, I lack time for learning another language. So, I try to focus on my Engish and my Dutch.

Actually i've just started it, pronunciation it's really difficult but they have a quite simple grammar: all the verbs are used only in the infitive form for example! i'm looking forward for the next lesson! and fortunatly the also use the "normal"alphabet!

A little while back I was at some play that was all about teaching the audience Chinese. They choose Chinese because of the easy grammar and it would be easier to sort of teach us some words. (While also telling a story, which I didn't understand AT ALL.) Impressive that you are trying to learn the language for reals!

I love languages. I did German for 4 years in school and Spanish 2. However I've pretty much lost both of them, because it was 2 years ago I properly studied. German I can read and understand more than I can speak. I hope to start learning Spanish again this year, maybe just go travelling abroad, I've been debating trying to find a job as an au pair or an english teacher. I think travel is so important for anyone. But I've a couple not so good experiences travelling alone in the past couple years so that makes me a bit wary, as if it doesnt work out you just end up back home again. But both my parents are very into languages and speak 3 or 4 so that inspires me
I admire the person learning Chinese that's really cool. I agree I often forget that a lot of people on here dont speak English as their first language, their english skills are so good.

I know what you mean, Ace. I studied French in school for seven years and now I am barely able to order a drink or ask for directions. It is really frustrating and I would love to improve my skills, but then, there is neither enough time, nor a possibility for me to actively start using it again. Besides, I am still busy improving my English (I'm German).
What countries would you like to travel to?

Its really hard here in the Uk at least where I live because languages are really dying out in schools and in colleges- you really have to fight to do them. Germany, Spain definately I've been looking into going abroad with EVS (european voluntary service). Have you heard of it? It looks like a really great project

I have started learning German . There is a free website organised by Wallonia (my region here in Belgium) in order to improve language skills in French, German, Dutch (the three Belgian official languages) as well as in English. So far, I really like German . Even if I am a bit upset because my family don't really understand my need of learning languages... They think that it is holiday, that I should do something else than "study", that I should at least focus on Dutch, that it is unuseful... And it really upsets me... I like learning languages. I have never travelled anywhere: therefore, learning a new language is like travelling for me. Then, I can travel in a culture... And, eventually, it would be useful for the day I would REALLY travel (a dream which, I hope, would become reality).

Im officially studying German again I like it so far, but I may switch to Spanish, because the exam for this level is really stressful, you have to do a lot of history and you have to analyse literature. If I do Spanish I can do the level below as I havnt done it before and I only need that for university. But I will have to switch my other course aswell so its so quite stressful. Ideally I would do both.
