Someone was saying in the paper over here awhile ago that some of the US jails are so full that they thought she might show up there and get sent away when there wasn't space for her. They were saying that happens all the time for less serious offences, not sure if it's true or not though?

Haha, I have no doubt our prisons are full to capacity. There's probably less facilities for women anyways.
I was watching this thing on Good Morning America (don't really know why since I never usually watch it) about a South African man named Oscar something that has prosthetic legs and wants to run in the Olympics. He's a second off the qualifying time for the Olympics, but there's a debate on whether he has an advantage from his carbon alloy legs over the other runners. I think it's wrong to keep him out because of something like that. If he's still under qualifying time, obviously he isn't really faster than any other normal Olympic runner.

hmm, well.... I think they just made up that argument.. because maybe they don't want him there... because if they say he might be faster, then they're saying something good.. an that way people won't be mad at them.. (or something.. ) here in Holland a guy (18 years old!) was killed when he was playing soccer with some friends and they saw this man trying to steal a bike... so they went up to him and ask him what he was doing, the man got a knife out of his pocket and stabbed him! he was dead immediately! that so stupid, they were trying to do the right thing, and you get killed for that..

This isn't really "important" news but it's news none the less. Paris Hilton has been sent BACK to jail. news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/entertainment/6735631.stmShe will get credit for her five days previously served. Hilton was released less than 48 hours ago and I guess they decided she needed to go back in the can instead of house arrest. She currently has forty more days to go.

www.cnn.com/2007/SHOWBIZ/books/05/28/bookburning.ap/index.htmlBookstore owner burns books in protest. "KANSAS CITY, Missouri (AP) -- Tom Wayne has amassed thousands of books in a warehouse during the 10 years he has run his used book store, Prospero's Books. But when he wanted to thin out the collection, he found he couldn't even give away books to libraries or thrift shops; they said they were full. So on Sunday, Wayne began burning his books in protest of what he sees as society's diminishing support for the printed word. "This is the funeral pyre for thought in America today," Wayne told spectators outside his bookstore as he lit the first batch of books. The fire blazed for about 50 minutes before the Kansas City Fire Department put it out because Wayne didn't have a permit for burning. Wayne said next time he will get a permit. He said he envisions monthly bonfires until his supply -- estimated at 20,000 books -- is exhausted." I wish I could go out there and take some of those books that are being destroyed. I also like how he named his shop after Prospero in The Tempest by Shakespeare.

Here in NSW, we've spent the past few days recovering from a series of mini cyclones and subsquent flooding and blackouts that hit on Friday and into early Saturday morning. It's been pretty awful - so far there's been 9 deaths reported. It's all something we're not used to, so the whole event has been a huge shock. www.news.com.au/story/0,23599,21884186-2,00.html www.radioaustralia.net.au/news/stories/s1947436.htmwww.news.com.au/story/0,23599,21883177-2,00.html www.news.com.au/story/0,23599,21882393-2,00.html

That's really sad news, phishhead42, I wish all the families involved a lot of love and strength to get through these terribly tough times...

There was a bridge tragedy in the US earlier this week in Minnesota. A bridge collapsed into the Mississippi River. I think I saw something about a few deaths and 30-some still missing. It's horrible when this stuff happens.

That's horrible. how could that happen? I mean..a bridge that collapsed by itself...it must be built to be safely used.

I don't really know how it happened. I don't think there was anymore traffic than normal on that day. I'm not sure how old it was though, that could've been something.

I've heard that a while before that happened they've had some sort of test on the bridge and that there were some faults found.. or something... but I think it's horrible, I already don't like driving or walking over bridges..

Just thought I'd share that the US' approval of President Bush is down to 35%, and our approval of Congress is down to 25%. *The political world is good in the US!*
