Anything written by Tolkien. Oh, I also really hate "The DaVinci Code".

I had a hard time reading 'The Hobbit" so I stopped...I liked the Davinci Code. I thought it was interesting, but of course over-rated.

I finished "The Hobbit", I forced myself. Everyone I know recommended it, and I thought that there must be something wrong with me that I didn't like it.

I guess it depends on what you like. I didn't really like the movies either...only the last one because there seem to be an ending.

I didn't like the movies either. I figured was just because I didn't like the books. I stopped watching the movies somewhere in the middle of the second one.

Nah, you're not alone pixiedust87, I've read The Hobbit twice - once in high school and once for fun a few years ago, before the LOTR movies came out. I'm not a big fan of fantasy novels but I really like The Hobbit, I found it really easy to get into. It's the kind of book I can picture myself reading to my kids, if I ever have any. LOTR was a completely different story. I managed to make it through the first book but only because I skipped several pages!

I tried to read the Hobbit about 3 times, and I could never even get to the middle. I did however LOVE the Da Vinci Code and unfortunately I found it when all the craze started going around. But o well, I'm really looking forward to the Solomon Key That's why I read the "DaVinci Code". I figured if it was generating all this controversy it must be good. Boy, was I wrong.

One reason I liked it was because it challenged doctrines. My mother certainly didn't like it for that reason, although she never read it so she had no reason to talk.

I find it so strange that people are still freaked out by books nowadays. It sounds like such an old close-minded mentality, you'd think (and hope) that people wouldn't think like that anymore...

That's how i feel. I don't agree with trying to ban Harry Potter in school, and Teletubbies, and Sesame street

I did a paper for english about censorship in high schools and how it shouldn't be allowed. One thing I tell my mom when I'm reading something she doesn't like, ie HP, Da Vinci Code, etc. is that reading is a form of entertainment and just because I read these books doesn't mean that I'm going to try to fly on a broomstick or go on a wild historical hunt through Europe. I know they're stories and they're not true, but she just won't let it go...
