I think it's interesting and a bit hard, but not as much as I have always thought. I'm enjoying studying it! I had always loved literature, maths and physic at school. When I was 8 I decided that I would be an engineer. Literature doesn't mean much with my actual studies and that's why nobody understand me at university. They see me reading before the beginning of classes, when I'm waiting for someone...they think I'm strange! Anyway my bestfriends understand me, some of them read more than me!

That's funny It's good that you're doing a degree like that but still love reading I think, variety!

I agree with Dom! Most of the engineers I know act like... well, engineers. They look at me with my literature degree and think I'm useless to society, grrrrr! I don't want to offend anyone because I know that not all engineers are like that, but I really do think that the fact that you enjoy studying engineering but still love to read is probably going to make you a more complete person, less one-sided, you know?

I know. I'd like to became a complete person and it is much more difficult than get an engineering degree. You don't offend me (or anyone else) because I definetly agree with you!I see this way of acting in many engineers, expecially young engineers, and I can't stand it! I hate their way of acting considering themselves as the most useful and important, and better than the others because they studied and get degree in something "difficult". To me, studying philosophy would be more difficult because I don't like it and I can't understand it, but fortunately anyone has their own tastes ( is it wrong saying taste here?). I'm lucky because I have 2 good friends, who attend engineer with me, and they're different. I don't like people who consider themselves better than the others, in general, not only engineers!

Yeah, I know the feeling. Studying literature seems lazy und unimportant too many people that are more interested and talented in sciences. I think it´s great that you enjoy both, lu! My two best friends are studying to be engineers and while they don´t read as much as I do they are still interested and go book shopping with me

I'm planning on studying biomed engineering when I go to college next year too. It's tough though, because I also want to minor in literature because I love reading so much, even though the two are completely unrelated! Oh well.

i dont think its so strange that all of you future engineers like to read. my sis is an electrical engineer and she loves to read! all of her friends are engineers and most of them read all of the time too! and swissmiss, i think its cool you want to minor in lit! my interests vary too. im majoring in english, minoring in journalism, and if i have time im getting certified to be a math teacher too (just in case i cant find a job as an english teacher)

And i agree with all that's been said above: so much is stereotyped by what one studies (for example, as an Arts major i'm useless and lazy and i'll never be any good for anything except working at a fast food joint - supposedly) and in the end, you just have to ignore it and go for what you are passionate about, even when it makes no sense to others. It's great to see that people want and welcome variety in what they study because they know instinctively it's what they want to surround themselves with each day, in some form or another.
