Today I did a ton of Christmas shopping. I went to Target and bought a lot, and then came home and placed an Amazon order and a Barnes and Noble order. Now I'm pretty much done. I just have to get one more book at Strand, and a box of chocolates. My favorite things to buy were definitely books. Most everyone is getting books this year, except my boyfriend. I got him a ton of sweaters and ties and button down shirts. Very boring, but he's graduating next week and will need lots of business casual clothes for work. Plus he looks so dang cute in everything that it's fun to buy for him. I loved buying my favorite books for people who will also appreciate them. I bought "I Like You: Hospitality Under the Influence" for my aunt (her kind of humor too!) and Sarah Vowell books for many people. Last Christmas I bought David Sedaris and Augusten Burroughs books for so many people that I don't remember which books I bought for whom, so I can't buy any of those this year! I'm most excited to give my best friend her presents. The library by my college has a permanent used book sale where you can find AMAZING deals. I found so many great books there for 50 cents or a dollar, so I bought her everything that was good, and I've been doing that for months now. I've got a HUGE amount of used books to give her, all very great ones! She's going to pee her pants I hope. She reads constantly, but can't afford to buy books very much at all, so she re-reads her small collection again and again. I'm SO excited that I found so many great books for her.

I love these sales. My library has them once a week and they´re never more than 50 cents for paperbacks and that´s why I´m not bankrupt yet. I almost never buy books for presents since my friends are disturbingly enough no fanatic readers. But they like food so cookies they get.

I still cant decide what to get my boyfriend. It has to be something kind of like a boyfriendy present apparently, so not books or dvds but something "nice". I'm stuck. He already has a watch and cologne from me and he wouldnt wear like a chain or any other male jewellery and he'd hate it if i bought him clothes. Does anyone have suggestions?

That´s a tough one, didn´t he drop hints? What are his hobbies? I made a poker table once.

a poker table huh? thats pretty cool. my sister made a table for herself. she collected all these different beer caps from people and the whole top of the table is beer caps and she put this stuff to hold it in place and then a piece of glass over it. it's pretty cool.

He liked it, thought it was more manly than cologne and stuff. But I´m a bit sarcastic so I gave him chocolate cigarettes too since he doesn´t smoke ;D Not giving hints really complicates things, I always get teased about my wish lists.

Nick is so impossible to buy stuff for because it's always just "I don't know" when I ask him what he wants. And when he does want stuff he doesn't really want anything original, just DVDs or video games. I wish I was creative enough to think of something unique for him. For his birthday I gave him a Model-by-Model history of the Corvette book because he likes Corvettes. So he liked it and it was something a little original. And as far as anniversaries go, I'm so uncreative. I outdid myself the first year. I bought this journal thing and I wrote a bunch of love quotes and some song lyrics in it. He really loves it but how do I compete with that?

see phil's the same, he tends to only want dvds and books, but he doesn't want to recieve them from me he says because thats not a "nice", "special" gift. In other words he wants me to agonise over what special gifts I could possibly still get him. After two years I think I've exhausted special gifts.
I'm thinking about perhaps a telescope, he's into science, astrology and universe theory and his house is away from all the lights etc.
Your quote book sounds like a really nice idea Kristie, maybe something similar would be doing something with a whole bunch of photos of you guys?

that quote book is a good idea. i might have to steal it for our next anniversary...if that's ok. for allen's b-day i made him a lil scrapbook...one of those mini ones. i filled it with pictures of us...starting with a picture we took together on the day we started dating. now whenever we take pictures together he wants me to add them to his book.

My friend at work just told me what she is doing this year for her boyfriend, and it's a really cute idea. She's making him a calendar. She's using 12x12 scrapbook paper, and drawing the boxes for each month, and decorating the sides with pictures and memories and things they both like. Then, in the boxes, she's writing down special dates for them, or cute dates/events they've had on certain dates in the past.
I thought this was a really cute idea, and very original. It would be cutest to make the whole calendar like she is, but you could also buy a calendar and customize it.
