I really enjoyed White Teeth. I read it when it first came out and was really excited when I heard she was touring here. But, she was such a huffy (literally sighing into the microphone the whole time!) and unfriendly speaker - it was an interview format and she was not very nice to the interviewer. Anyway, the book was great so I hope that you enjoy it too. I woudn't really bother with her follow up The Autograph Man though - was quite boring and no where near as good!
I've heard very wonderful things about Zadie Smith, both White Teeth and On Beauty. I've also heard very mixed things about Autograph man, some people hated it, and some people really liked it. But I found a hardcover copy at Barnes and Noble for $4.99, so I figured, why not? I'm excited to read White Teeth though, my mom is reading it now and loves it.

I've read a couple of her books, On Beauty and White Teeth, and I thought they were really good. I'd get started and just not be able to stop.

Northanger Abbey by Jane Austen Trials and Tribulations by Theodor Fontane The bell jar by Sylvia Plath A christmas carol by Charles Dickens We're doing the bell jar as our book club book at the moment but we're nearly finished. When you've read it though it's still ok to discuss it in the book club thread even if we've finished our analysis of it, I'm sure everyone would still love to talk about it some more. That applies to any book club book, if you read it after we've finished still feel free to post about it! Just because we've discussed it doesn't mean the topic closes

1. Siddartha by Hermann Hess 2. The Red Tent by Anita Diamant 3. Walden by Thoreau 4. Walden II by B.F. Skinner 5. A Confederacy of Dunces by Toole
I have a hard time only reading one book at a time so really I plan on reading Siddartha and Walden II next. What can I say, I have a really short attention span!

Yeah, I tried the list idea but I don´t always have it on me so I write ideas on other pieces of paper and now a have a whole stack as a tbr list. It´s a bit embarrassing.I try to follow it but I get side-tracked by other books in the library or the store.

I haven't read "On the Road" (but it's supposed to be good), but the other four are some of the best novels I've ever read. Let us know what you think of The Catcher in the Rye, some of us love it and some of us hate it (I'm part of the first group ).
