I want to buy a good vocabulary builder to help me with my speech, and paper writing. I would love to be an eloquent speaker, and writer.
Has anyone tried a vocabulary builder book or have any suggestions?

I haven't. I do get "word of the day" though, and I love it. Sometimes I even save the words.

Yeah...I get a word of the day e-mail. It's from Merriam-Webster and sometimes they're obvious words, buy mostly their words I've never heard of or have but don't really know. If you want, you can subscribe on the website www.m-w.com It's an option on the left hand side (Word of the Day).

I have a word of the day thing too, on my personalized Google homepage.
What I like to do is this, whenever I'm reading and I come across a word I don't know (especially while reading classics) I look it up. (I like to do this on my computer's dictionary the best, as you just type it in and it comes up, so it doesn't take very long.) Then, if I like the definition, and if it's a word I'd like to know and remember, I write the word, definition, and origin down in a composition notebook I have. I also write down what book I saw the word in, just for fun when looking back over the words.
I also add other words I come across, like ones I like from the word of the day thing. The result is a really fun notebook full of words and definitions you can review and study whenever you want. It's special to me because it's personalized, and I like that most of the words are ones I've found through reading.

hey why don't we start a vocab builder thread where we post really weird words to expand our vocab? I'm totally doing that now lol.

That´s great, there are so many words I don´t know especially since English is not my first language

*blushes* Thanks! I think it´s because the Dutch don´t translate movies, that really helps with learning a foreign language. I´m trying to improve my French by watching Amélie. It´s a good enough excuse ;D

Ohhh ok, lol yeah it's a good excuse. One of the exchange students in my class is Finnish and he says he learnt English entirely from watching television, so it must work!

My M-W word of the day was "katzenjammer" the other day. It means a hangover. I thought that was a funny word (German-ish) for hangover.
