So I'm reading this book for class, and it's very good. I'm having a hard time putting it down. The book takes place after the African-American slaves get emancipation, and now are trying to uplift the race. However, some white supremists believe that this is leading to "negro domination".
It also follows this one woman who hasa high rank in her soceity trying to hide the fact that she has a black sister (father's relationship with a slave). The two sisters look very similar.
Very good book. Has anyone else read this book, or any other book by Chesnutt?

I haven't read this, or even heard of it either, but it sounds really interesting. Something I should tell my ethnic studies teacher about (we're currently talking about the US after the Civil War when bunches of immigrants were coming here and how the slaves were then free and were "invading" the north). I'll put this on my list of books to read.

From what I've read of it, the books goes un-noticed a lot. It's really great though. I'm really enjoying it.

So I just finished reading it, and it was great. It kept me intrigued right till the end. Then ending didn't disappoint.
Highly Recommended!
