I like the rock. It's easier to list bands than a type of music so my favorites lately are mewithoutYou, Anathallo, Danielson, Mason Jennings, and Viva Voce.

I'm a musical theatre and soundtrack girl through and through (especially Donsy - the Ashman/Menken years to be precise, though they were short), though via listening to artists of that genre i often come across them singing/composing music from other areas which i enjoy just as much. (eg. Manoel Felciano, who recently wrapped a stint as Toby in the revival of Sweeney Todd in NY - check out his "Live at Joe's Pub" stuff right here: mano.felciano.com/joespub/JoesPubRoughMix/Joesroughmix.htmlIn terms of the socially accepted "normal" music i have no set artists i like coz i rarely ever listen to the radio... however in my time i have liked random songs by more mainstream artists (now, i say mainstream by i mean the term to refer to both mainstream po and mainstream left-field music - hehe! oxymoron! hehe!) Sadly i could'nt be bothered listing those at present! hurrah for my laziness!

I love stories and I tend to gravitate to musical genres that resemble story telling: opera, musical theater, folk... I tend to like artists who exhibit skill either vocally or in terms of songwriting or playing an instrument. I hate the whole manufactured sound. Some of my favorite artists of any genre: Kelli O'Hara (musical theater) Celia Keenan-Bolger (musical theater) Audra McDonald (musical theater) Anthony Warlow (musical theater and opera) Aaron Lazar (musical theater) Natalie Dessay (opera) L'ubica Varicova (opera) Rolando Villazon (opera) David Hobson (opera) Renee Fleming (opera) Bryn Terfel (opera) more mainstream stuff I like: Jewel Joni Mitchell Joan Baez Bob Dylan- though I prefer him as a songwriter to him as a singer Sarah McLaughlin Keren Ann Sarah Brightman David Gray Dawn Landes
I also like some celtic stuff like Enya and Loreena McKeenett

Ditto especially to LG's list of musical theatre people; in particular Ant, whom i wish i could marry were i much older and he not already taken, and Kelli who i think many a girl/woman would sell their soul to look/sound/act like for just one day. Glad to see Dav in there too on the opera list; go the Aussies, oi oi oi!
