Wow, now I have to admit that I kind of hated Werther. But I love everything by E.T.A. Hoffmann. I read the sandman in school and that really got me into his stories.

I'm with you on that one Dorothy, I hated Young Wherther, I couldn't wait for him to finally kill himself.

Me neither. I spent most of my time reading making fun of Werther, or I skipped some of his longer speeches.

I think this is the most hated classic in school over here I thought the concept was interesting but Werther was horrible, hated him! And then after the book was first published suicide rates exploded. People are crazy!

Cool. I haven´t read spring´s awakening yet and I´m not a big fan of Fontane since I had to read Effi Briest in school. But I got into Hesse some time ago, finally!
I know he´s not German but from Switzerland but I love everything by Dürrenmatt, he´s so great!

I only read Die Physiker and Der Besuch der alten Dame by Dürrenmatt and I liked it and I saw Grieche sucht Griechin on my father's bookshelf. Maybe I should read that one, too.
Effi Briest is not as good as Trials and Tribulations. Never really understood the thing about the Chinese. But you should really read Trials...!
Unterm Rad is the only novel by Hesse I read.

Okay, I think I´ll see if I can find it at the used books sale, I´ll give him another chance Der Verdacht and Der Richter und sein Henker are also fantastic. I don´t know the English titles, sorry.

Der Hauptmann von Köpenick by Carl Zuckmayer. It's so nice and the movie is great, too!
