I don't believe we have a thread for this yet.
What books would you recommend to others on the boards? Just anything you think is worth reading...
I just read the third book in a series/trilogy by Celestine Hitiura Vaite. I think all three books are worth reading:
Breadfruit Frangipani Tiare (in Bloom)
They take place in Tahiti, and they're all relaxing books, not heavy reads but still amazing. Definitely books to take on vacation, I think. Here are some descriptions on her website: www.celestinevaite.com/ (click books on the left side of the page)

The History of Love by Nicole Krauss The Phantom Tollbooth by Norton Juster A Girl Named Zippy by Haven Kimmel The Namesake by Jhumpa Lahiri
many many more, but these are the ones that come immediately to mind as books I think almost anyone could enjoy.

- The Late Clara Beame by Taylor Caldwell
- Wars Of The 21st Century by Ignacio Ramonet (editor in chief of Le Monde Diplomatique, my hero!!, lol. This is more of a political-journalism oriented book, but it's amazing)
- Oedipus The King by Sophocles (my favorite Greek tragedy)
- One Hundred Years Of Solitude by Gabriel García Márquez (a wonderful book if you don't get confused by the fact that practically every character has the same name, lol)

Little Women. When I was little it really annoyed me. Because all the girls seemed like saints with this perfect relationship. Now that I am older I see their individual flaws and weaknesses I also enjoy her simple yet entertaining writing BUT I still can't bear to read the ending!! Laurie + Jo = Forever

I still can't bear to read the ending!! Laurie + Jo = Forever I know exactly what you mean! Whenever I watch "Titanic" I can never watch part 2 because I always think that the ship will NOT sink and then I can't watch it because I know it will. I definitely recommend "A Tree Grows in Brooklyn". It's a classic, yes, but it's so well written and it flows and is so nice at being distant and yet fully involved with the protagonist and her family.

I really loved The Handsome Road by Gwen Bristow. I have another book by her (called Jubilee Trail) which I haven't read yet. This is one review from Amazon (I'm too lazy to write my own... ) "This book takes the story of the Larne, Sheramy and UpJohn families through the civil war and it's aftermath. The author provides a very realistic portrayal of the upper class Larnes and Sheramys and the poor UpJohns, the latter having to struggle for work as the upper class had the slave labor to do most of the work for "free". Also, the turnaround of the cultures in the aftermath of the civil war, the Larnes and Sheramys having to struggle to survive and keep their plantations while Corrie May was able to catch a coattail of a carpet bagger and his money. "

I know exactly what you mean! Whenever I watch "Titanic" I can never watch part 2 because I always think that the ship will NOT sink and then I can't watch it because I know it will. One of my friends in high school would only watch part 1 of Titanic. All she ever wanted to watch was them falling in love. I actually like the ship sinking part - what does that say about be?
