The Harry Potter books, strangely. When I was little my family went on a holiday to the north of England to see castles and ruins. One of the castles we visited was Alnwick Castle which (a few years later) was used as the main location for shooting the exterior and interior scenes at Hogwarts in the Harry Potter movies. So my brothers and I can actually say we went to Hogwarts when we were kids! (This would have been in the early/mid 1990s.. so before the books were written.) I also pass by Platform 9¾ at King's Cross Station a few times a week (since I live in London and use the tube as my main method of transportation.) They've actually put a sign up now (between platforms 9a and 9b) and there is a luggage cart "stuck" in the wall under the sign. Pretty much any books that have scenes in London. Dickens, Conan Doyle, George Orwell, Martin Amis, PG Wodehouse, Nick Hornby, etc. I've been to a lot of the places that crop up in their books numerous times.

I've just realized that I never wrote in this interesting thread. I haven't been to many books settings: - both Tornatràs and Clorofilla dal cielo blu by Bianca Pitzorno are set in Milan, I've been there many many times; - I recently visited Venice and The Thief Lord by Cornelia Funke is set there; - Lisbon, Night Train to Lisbon by Pascal Mercier; - Florence, where the first part of A Room with a View is set. It's all I can think of for now.
