I brought The Phantom of the Opera and A Tree Grows in Brooklyn on my last trip to Europe but I ended up reading my mother's A Hopeless Romantic (chick-lit through and through but enjoyable) and buying a copy of Tatler!

I brought Wives and Daughters on my beach holiday and I found that it often kept me under the umbrella reading instead of swimming!

I'm not leaving until next Monday so it's too early to start packing, but I've already decided which books I'm bringing to Belize with me: "Wicked" by Gregory Maguire, "A Complicated Kindess" by Miriam Toews, and "Everything is illuminated" by Jonathan Safran Foer

I only brought A Tree Grows in Brooklyn with me. I meant to bring my Thursday Next book to but I forgot it. But this will force me to read because i'm really far behind where the discussion is.

Since I'm going to Dublin, I thought I'd bring books by Irish writers so I'm bringing "The Vicar of Wakefield" by Oliver Goldsmith (I've already started reading it, it's hilarious so far!), "Major Barbara" by George Bernard Shaw and "The Story of Lucy Gault" by William Trevor.

What a great idea, Isa - they all sound like great reads; I hope you have fun in Dublin!
Whenever I go on holiday I always seem to have considerable difficulty pairing my choices down to just a few books so I always end up bringing far too many books with me on my vacation than I can read in that time, i.e. when I went on my Caribbean cruise the December before last December I brought 6 books with me, but I only read 3 of them (2 on the car/plane ride, 1 while I was lounging by the poolside).

For Michigan I packed: - Look Me in the Eye (because I'm already reading it) - A Relative Stranger by Charles Baxter (because it's set in Michigan) - Certain Girls (because chick lit was meant for vacation)
