I just finished, so I'm ready to discuss.
I'm still deciding how I felt about this book. I enjoyed it enough while reading it, but at times I was just reading to read. I loved the ending though, so that def. makes me like the book better.
**SPOILERS**
I hadn't picked up on the child abuse idea (I'm a little slow sometimes), but now that you say it, it makes sense. A lot of people do block it out. Maybe she should be psychoanalyzed like she suggested as a joke.
I was so surprised by the ending, but I absolutley loved it. I guess I thought everything would all work out. I actually cried at the very last page when he writes: "This is how an entire course of life can be changed - by doing nothing."
I think they could have worked through it. A lot of couples have different sexual needs/wants and they manage to survive. Especially if she was abused - she could have gotten some therapy with that. It's sad to think of everything they missed out on because they were too scared to talk to each other.
I liked how real everything seemed. You never read about the awkwardness that can occur when two inexperienced people get married. And they were just a few years away from an era in which they would have been able to talk about it or have sex before marriage or do something to help the situation. It's very sad.
**END SPOILERS**
I would recommend it. I liked it - though maybe not as much as Zelda and Kristie. It was a quick read - I read it in less than 24 hours during the work week.
