Same for me, I've read some of the Greek classics, but I can't think of a single novel that takes place in modern day Greece...

O I forgot I sailed the seas with Odysseus on his journey home to Greece in the Odyssey. I had to read it for school, and therefore didn't care much for it. Since it's technically poetry, I would've liked it better had it been written as pure prose because I can't read a whole book set up with lines like a poem. It breaks my concentration. But the overall story is nice...it's just a long book

I have been to China quite a bit, Europe and Britain countless times,Japan a few times, Vietnam once or twice and all around the United States. I have also been to India, and Cuba which I loved. Been back and forth in time quite a bit as well.

Ancient Greece for me too...the only book I can think of that takes you to present day Greece is the Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants by Ann Brashares.

for russia all tolstoj...especially anna karenina, one of my favourite books: after reading it for the first time i started planning my journey there and reading every book i could find set in russia or about russia!it's like my dream journey!
china is my newest obsession!recently i have read an historical book about the forbidden city and to two very good novels:empress orchid by anchee min and the secrets of jin-sei by alma alexander( set in medieval china)
i liked them both, especially anchee min's style!

I have Anna Karenina at home on my TBR pile. It's just so long... I haven't read any book set in Russia, at least that I can recall at the moment. But I read Snow Flower and the Secret Fan by Lisa See that is set in China. Have you read it? Many of us on the boards loved it.
