I thought a new thread about book websites would be nice. Which sites do you like and find useful? I love lists so I like this site: www.interleaves.org/~rteeter/greatbks.html#indexesIt has all sorts of links to different book lists, from all literature nobel prize winners, to the list of "a lifetimes reading" (a book my dad gave to me after using it himself for many years) to the various eastern and western canons. Its looks a bit simple, but I like it. I also like: www.listsofbests.com/lists/home/booksI love all the different book lists, and the fact that you can compose your own and compare these to others. ;D

great thread! I love the lists of best site too. I also will check out the other site you posted, it looks like something I'll love - I can't ever get enough of book lists! I also love using Vox to talk about books, and reading about what my neighbors are reading too. emilyw.vox.com There are also blogs on Publisher's Weekly site that I like to read: www.publishersweekly.com/blog/670000267.html - The Book Maven www.publishersweekly.com/blog/660000266.html - Shelf Talker And of course, the sites of my favorite lit magazines: The Paris Review: www.theparisreview.com/Believer: www.believermag.com/Powell's has a lot of great things too, I love their author interviews. Here's a link to Frank McCourt's, and there's a very long list of other authors down the left side where you can read more interviews.: www.powells.com/authors/mccourt.htmlI also like the salon's book section: dir.salon.com/topics/books/ And they have a great interview with Kurt Vonnegut: www.salon.com/books/int/1999/10/08/vonnegut_interview/index.html I also regularly go to the site's of Amazon, Barnes and Noble, and the New York Times to discover new books. Additionally, whenever I start reading a book by an author I've never read or am not very familiar with the background of, I go to Wikipedia and read about their life and the history of their work.

Thanks Zelda! You've mentioned a lot of great links. I loved your vox-site, so I'm "building" one myself also! And I do that wikipedia thing too .

I thought of another one last night.... VidLit is a site that takes books (not a HUGE selection, but decent) and makes sort of a graphic video to help promote it. It always uses a passage from the book (never just a summary, so it's not like a movie trailer or anything) and uses fun graphics to illustrate that passage. You have something fun to watch, and you get to hear a passage of the book to see if you might like it. Here is my favorite vid lit, Bill Bryson's "The Life and Times of the Thunderbolt Kid" - www.vidlit.com/bryson/And here is the regular Vid Lit link: www.vidlit.com/index.php

I love www.shelfari.com. You can build an online library, make friends who have the same reading tastes, join groups. I am completely addicted. Check it out!

Someone posted this link ages ago and it just took me ages trawling through old threads trying to find it (I'd forgotten what the site was called) so I thought I'd post it here www.betterworld.com/

whichbook.net is so fun! I'll have to use it next time I am in a reading slump.
when I still used facebook, I enjoyed using one of their book apllications to rate, review, and list my books. It let people know what I was reading. So fun! I also found it to reccomend books pretty accurately, since it reccomended books that were already on my TBR list.
