Hehe, me too, personally! Aside form his having to desire it himself, there would be so many girls lusting after him that at least one would have had to resort to desperate measures! Also, throughout vampire lit, we have seen that they are the most sexual of 'monsters', as the very act of biting someone's neck is, well kinky! ... so i don't see how Meyer can avoid the topic, even with the supporting characters - and yet we have yet to meet one horny vampire!!! What is going on?!

It is funny that it's been that long, but I got the impression it's because the bloodlust is stronger? But yeah I agree neh especially since vampires are such sexualised monsters. This convo made me remember a Buffy documentary where some maker of the show was talking about how usually they have the vampires biting one of the opposite sex to show this, which I had never actually noticed myself.

But Meyer did say that she wasn't influenced by other vampire stories (and she had never seen Buffy - what a shame) so maybe she doesn't follow the sexualized nature of vampires? I guess it shouldn't be that hard to believe - she never discusses it regarding the other vampires. I just think 80 yrs is a long time to expect someone to remain chaste (and I love that I was just able to use the word chaste in a sentence).
Even if Bella and Edward tried to have sex before she changed, she wouldn't be getting the normal experience like she wants because Edward would have to act differently because of his strength.

See i was wondering that wen i read the second book. It was something to the extent of wen Edward and Jasper or the other one, I forget his name, they had bodily contact or even touched each other carelessly while playing their equivalent to baseball Meyer compared it to a sound like lightening. So umm... just how do two vampires consummate their relationship without all that loud sound and ummm for lack of a better word stuff

Oooooh, very interesting point Sage... gosh, Meyer's vampiric creation and universe have certainly raised some new questions with regards to this brand of 'monster'... i guess this can be seen as a compliment, because she is essentially forming her own little off-shoot of a vampire tale, as like memccart says, it doesn't relate to any other work of vampire canon that we are familar with. I just think that Bella *had* (i say had coz she's sort of gone and changed her mind for the moment) the right idea when she argued that she wanted to experience a human intimate experience AS a human, before she was transformed. That's a fair point to make, coz as Sage pointed out things could be very very different once she's one of them. But also, as memccart said, it may not be entirely natural or pleasant or whatever with Ed as they are now either... who knows?! I'm getting too confuzzled thinking about it

Yes. I think it would be unpleasant...he is a stone, right? Maybe she should go sleep with Jacob to get the real experience.

So Ben started reading Twilight because he wanted to see what all the fuss was about. I was really curious to see if it would translate to a guy's perspective. When he called me tonight he (very embarrassingly) confessed to not being able to put it down. He has the day off tomorrow and he says he plans on just reading it all day. He also promised that I would not tell anyone that he liked it.

They really are addictive - possibly because they're easy to read and absorb, but not to the extent that the writing or characterisation suffers. Memccart, let Ben know it's ok, don't be ashamed - it's happened to all of us, hehe!

He finished Twilight yesterday (I made the mistake of calling him when he had 10 pages left and got a severe "I'll call you back in a few minutes"). And he asked me to bring the next two with me this weekend so he can read those. He really enjoyed it. He's not too ashamed - he's pretty comfortable with himself.

Looks like a pretty solid cast! I'm actually letting myself get a little excited! (But only a little)

I don't know if I want to see the movie... I LOVE the novels, and I love how I picture the characters, I don't want to change that.

*belated response due to comp absence* Hmmm.... interesting! It's so odd to see Nikki Reed (Rosalie) with blonde hair as i'm so used to her appearance from Thirteen... Oh, and if you go here you can find some vids of Q&A stuff with Stephanie Meyer - she talks about the cast on clip 2 especially www.youtube.com/user/HaileyAmanda
