Awesome! I didn't know we could make polls on this board, I'm liking it even more!

I tend to like classics. Pop literature is really boring.

I agree that the current stuff is usually more boring. At least for me, I don't like reading teen stuff because it's always all about the same general topic: sex/drugs/alcohol/homosexuality. I like the old classics. Yes for Jane Austen, Alexandre Dumas, and JM Barrie!

You know, I've never read anything by JM Barrie. I should definitely add some of his works to my wishlist... If he's one of your favorite authors, then I'm sure you've seen Finding Neverland, what did you think of the movie?

I am a really big Margaret Atwood fan, so all the reading of her stuff that I do balances out all my classic reading I guess. I like contemporary fiction but I'm pretty picky with it and won't just read anything.

I try to read both equally but it really depends on my mood. I like that the classics are not hard to pick since they´re classics. With contemporary fiction it really is more difficult to find a great read. I have "the handmaid´s tale" on my shelf just waiting to be read ;-)

That's true. Contemporary works are so hit and miss.

I loved Finding Neverland. I really love all the different types of Peter Pan movies, but I think that the musical from the 60s with Mary Martin actually matched the book best (despite the random song). The only JM Barrie I've read is Peter Pan and I honestly have no idea what else he's written. Peter Pan is short and definitely worth the read (I've read it 3 times).

That's good to know, cause I loved the movie but I didn't know how accurate it was. I'll definitely look for a copy of Peter Pan. My list of books to read is increasing by the minute now that we've started these new boards!

I can relate to you there, both my boyfriend and I compulsively buy books. I have so many of my own to get through and I get distracted from them by reading his lol.

I have "the handmaid´s tale" on my shelf just waiting to be read ;-) This is very true, which is why I tend to shy away from a lot of new books. What I really don't like is when a contemporary novel seems like it's trying to be classic literature, I almost felt that way about Life of Pi.

I feel that way a lot too. Some of the newer books just try to hard, but some don't try enough.

But I´ve been reading a lot of contemporary this year so maybe I´m not that hard on them anymore. Plainsong was really great and I couldn´t put it away but now I´m reading heart of darkness for a change
