I was wondering if anyone else wants to launch a new discussion about a book?

We should have a discussion in which we recommend good books?

I was thinking that we could choose a book that we would read and discuss about (just like in book club). I saw that the last book club reading was at least six months ago... So, interested? Any suggestion? Classic or contemprorary?

That's a really good idea! The last book we discussed was contemporary and we often did a classic book after a contemporary, but it's been a while ago since we finished Balzac and the little chinese seamstress...so, either contemporary or classic is fine with me. We should have a discussion in which we recommend good books? It's a discussion on one book. From the FAQ thread: Q: How do the book club books work?A: We alternate between contemporary and classic books. We have a nomination thread for each upcoming book club book, from which the books people seem most keen on are put into a poll thread for people to vote. Then we discuss the book bit by bit, discussing usually a few chapters at a time (how many depends on the length of the book, and the length of it's chapters). Everyone is encouraged to contribute :

Maybe everyone should suggest kind of a maximum of three books (either classic or contemporary) and we would choose amongst the suggested novels ?

Let's start with suggestions. Then we'll make a poll to vote and choose between the most suggested books.
I had look at my to-be-read list and thought of 3 books: - Contemporary: The History of Love by Nicole Krauss, The Weird Sisters by Eleanor Brown; - Classic: Wives and Daughters by Elizabeth Gaskell.

Hard to choose only three book actually! But I did it - Classic : The Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne, Of Mice and Men by Jonathon Steinbeck - Contemporary: The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold (I choose this one because I don't focus very much on contemporary literature lately and this is a book that I have for ages and I haven't read it yet). As I am more into classic readings for the moment, "Wives and Daughters" seems nice... But I saw that it was a huge book (something like 600 pages I think). So, I don't know if it is not a bit too challenging (there is a risk of losing readers through the book... I mean when reading a long book I often stop it, kind of tired...) But, nevertheless, it can be a thrilling challenge. "The History of Love" seems one of those poetic novel that I like .

I agree, that's bit too long for our book club discussion. I already read On the Road in Italian and a book discussion might be a good excuse to read it in English. I also read Madame Bovary and The Lovely Bones but I wouldn't mind re-reading them.

Great idea everybody!
I would like to read The History of Love and On the Road. They're both on my TBR list, and it would be great to discuss them with you!

I think we should wait a few days before voting, to see if others want to join. When would be convenient for you guys to start our discussion?
