Since it's summer, I'm doing a lot more reading even though I have three jobs! I was thinking that this thread could kind of be your "facebook status-eque," but just about your reading today! You can share an interesting quote from what you read today, where you read, how much you read, or how you read 40 pages while at work!
Examples: Mooched off of my mom's kindle to read Pride and Prejudice for free. Got sunburned while engrossed in East of Eden by the neighbors' pool.
I think my status today would be this: "But why must everything always have a practical application? I'd been working such a diligent soldier for years-working, producing, never missing a deadline, taking care of my loved ones, my gums and my credit record, voting, etc. Is this lifetime supposed to be only about duty?" (Eat, Pray, Love)

I've been reading short-stories the last few days and today I especially liked the following sentence: Constant use had not worn ragged the fabric of their friendship. (The Standard of Living by Dorothy Parker)

I read at university today during my lunch break. I sat on a bench in front of the rooms where the music students practice. There was no one else around and I could listen to someone playing the piano the whole time, it was really nice and relaxing.
My favourite quote (I'll try to translate it to English since I'm reading the German version): "Auf dem Schreibtisch lag wie ein eingeschlafenes Zwergkaninchen ihr angefangenes Taschenbuch," "The paperback she'd just started lay on the desk like a sleeping dwarf rabbit." (taken from Hard-Boiled Wonderland and the End of the World by Haruki Murakami)

My reading day: coffee, chocolate, watermelon and Anna Karenina after having cleaned the apartment. A fitting quotation may be "He felt that he was himself and did not wish to be anyone else."

Fun thread! And nice quote, Hanna! I have read two short stories from The Complete Sherlock Holmes. I mostly read during breakfast, before heading to a meeting for my Summer job. I also read about half an hour after lunch, before studying.

I am reading at work I have read so few books in the last two years. I don't want to blame my boyfriend for that, but I think i do And this summer I have time to read when it is quite at work, I'll read about four hours a day, sometimes more sometimes less. I love it when I have time to dive into the story and spend hours with the characters. This is from the Reading Lolita in Tehran by Azar Nafisi that I am reading right now (from the finnish version, translated by me,) "If you don't step into that world, hold your breath with the characters and take part to their destinies, you can't feel empathy, put our soul into it and empathizing is fundamental in novels. You should read novel this way: breathe in its world. So start breathing." If someone has the real english version, please correct mine.

I didn't really have a reading day yesterday, but I did have a reading night. Since I bought the two first books in The Parasol Protectorate series, I've been stressing to finish Anna Karenina so I could get to it. And about midnight yesterday Anna sadly killed herself again, and I went straight to Soulless. However it was so entertaining that though really tired I couldn't stop reading till early this morning. There are a lot of brilliant quotes in Soulless, but I want to share with you a sentence from the author's acknowledgements: "To Mum and Dad, who had the brilliant parental idea that good behavior be rewarded with trips to the bookstore." If I ever have kids I hope I can remember those words of wisdom

I started reading 1984 by George Orwell today. I was at my boyfriend's but he wasn't feeling well. I had already finished my other book, so I took this one from his shelf and sat by his bedside reading. (The book was given to him by his dad, a German teacher, in a futile attempt to make him read. He did listen to the audio version, though. ^^)
Favourite quote: "War is peace, freedom is slavery, ignorance is strength."

I always do my reading at home. I am reading Coffee at Luke's by Jennifer Crusie. I am 14% into it so far. I got a feeling I will be done with it by the 22nd. That's the day of the 24 hour Dewey Marathon.

I read during my daily train journey. I am reading Jesus loves me by David Safier. This is really a funny reading: so caustic, so hilarious... Satan is physically identical to George Clowney! Jesus arrived late of 2000 years and he share his bread (actually a pizza) with a homeless! I was smiling all the time! This book makes me lighter and happier! Quote: "On devrait obliger tous les parents à ouvrir un compte d'épargne dès la naissance pour que leurs enfants puissent payer les psychologues plus tard." "We should require all parents to open a savings account at birth for their children to pay the psychologists later."

I was a bit early this morning at uni. So, I read while sipping a cup of thee and slightly listening to a Constitutional Law classe for the corridor (and I was so happy that I don't have to study that anymore^^).

It was quite cold. I felt so silly its been years since I forgot my key. Its because on thursday I have so many books I have to take a backpack and yesterday I had an interview so just took a smaller bag and I forgot to swap my key into the bag. I got home at 12pm and they came back at 1:15 so could have been worse. Plus generally either my brother or mum are home as neither have jobs.
