So, I found out my family is moving to Switzerland! I have never been more excited in my life!! I will be in college but I'll be spending summers & vacations there. Basically, to any of you who have gone: what should I know before I go, what should I do there, anything at all I should know? I'll be in the Geneva area. Do you know any good shops/restaurants/clubs? Also, do you recommend any books by Swiss authors or books that take place there? I'm pretty advanced at French, so I'm probably going to start with German soon. Gah! I'm just so excited.

Oh wow, that's a massive move!
I'm not familiar with Switzerland actually. I know that when you turn 19 as a Swiss citizen you have to join the army.
Good luck though!

Cool! I've been to Switzerland several times since I have a lot of family living there, but I've always stayed in the German speaking areas, so I know nothing of Geneva. It's a great country, though. Do you like hiking? Because the opportunities for that (and skiing) are good. I'm not much of a hiker myself, but my brothers travel there to climb mountains (as if we don't have enough mountains here).
So you'll stay in the US while your family is in Europe? Exciting! Do you think it's okay?

I don't really hike but I love to ski. I think we'll have the equivalent of a green card? Or something. At any rate, I won't be a Swiss citizen so I don't have to worry about joining the army, lol.
Basically I would be going away to college (far away, like probably either up in San Francisco or in New York, all the way across the country) anyway so I will probably see my family the same amount. But I'll be there for several months before I come back for university.

That's so cool! I've been there once, I was skiing in Zermatt. And if you're in Switzerland, it's easy to travel in Europe. When we drove from Germany to Italy (across Austria and Switzerland), it only took one day. But good luck, I'm sure it will be a huge experience Ooh, I'm a bit jealous, I want to move somewhere and learn new languages!

Switzerland: chocolate! I don't live far from Switzerland but I never been there. I heard there are great places for hiking, I'd love to visit it. I'd also really like to see Rhaetian Railway. I think the only Swiss author I read is Friedrich Dürrenmatt. Sounds like a great experience, halie!

Same here, don't know much about the country, but I'm sure it'll be a great experience! The first part of Henry James's "Daisy Miller" is set in Switzerland, but I'm sure things have changed a lot since then

I second Friedrich Dürrenmatt´s books and chocolate! And definitely take the time to visit the surrounding countries. Have fun!
