Tess is really really good. It's an allegory of the story of Adam and Eve in a completely different light. Even for today's stories. It was once banned for Hardy's portrayal of Tess as a raped victimn.

Probably.......... hmm............
"Vanity Fair" "Don Quixote" "Wuthering Heights" "Frankenstein" "Siddhartha"
"Crime & Punishment", "Tristram Shandy", "Three Men In A Boat", "Alice In Wonderland" and "Sense & Sensibility" would probably be my alternates.

I wanted to see what I had written for my favorite classics when I joined this board years ago, but instead i found that I never answered this thread. Wow. So, favorite classics: 1. Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte 2. Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte 3. Persuasion by Jane Austen 4. The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexandre Dumas 5. Les Miserables by Victor Hugo This is a difficult list to make though, there are so many great classics, and I feel bad that I didn't include Henry James on the list. Though some of his stories are definetly up there
