There is no way that everything written in A child called 'it' is true. Come on that the nurse examined Dave for 2 years without reporting to the authorities. Why weren't the teachers more caring and took more notice of Dave? He was starved and covered with bruises and wounds, how many lies did he have to come up with to protect his mom. What about the neighbors? Didn't they freaking notice something is wrong?
I have done some investigating of my own, and they are claims that this book is based on lies. Even his brother has come out and said its based on lies.
If his mom did abuse him, why did the state not take away her 4 other kids? Why not punish the mom?

Maybe it's similar to the way Go Ask Alice and Annie's Baby are made up to scare kids into "doing the right thing".
