Okay, so I just started reading this and I've gotten through the intro and first 2 chapters. It's okay so far, but Blue (the main character) is still really just explaining her childhood travels with her father. I've done some research though, while reading. The name of every chapter is the name of a book: Chapter 1 is Othello and Chapter 2 is A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man. I wondered if the names meant anything, so I looked at what had happened in the book to see if it was like what happened in those other books. And strangely enough, the Chapter Othello is about marriage and the next chapter is about Blue's childhood. I think this is really a neat thing for the author to do. But I'll always make sure every chapter name is like this. Blue loves to talk about movies and books so I'm keeping a list of those she mentions and it's already somewhat long.

Wow. That's my thought on this book. Not a bad wow, but...wow. There was, first off, so much information to pay attention to while reading this book. Blue cited many books and websites as she narrated her life, and I didn't know which ones to believe as being real. I checked some of the websites, and they don't exist, but there were definitely books that I recognized or had read myself even. I couldn't check them all because Blue mentioned hundreds of books. I did try to keep a list of all she mentioned, but that would've taken a lot of paper.
Of the books and movies Blue mentioned, I think that it helped the story and made it seem very realistic. Because, while I didn't recognize every book mentioned, I recongnized a lot of them and knew they were real. So I sort of just went thru the book kind of believing all the books she mentioned we real. I couldn't recognize the false ones right away because so many were real. It was a nice touch for Pessl to do that.
While I'm a person who usually likes descriptions and details, after finishing, I realized how much time Pessl spent developing the characters. It took her 300 pages to get to the climax, and the last 200 pages, it was hard for me to put the book down. But I do think there are parts in the development section that needn't be there. I liked the book a lot, but some of the stuff was just unneeded. (I'll also reiterate how much I did like the chapter title and the way Pessl chose which title to give the chapter.)
