Do any of you enjoy musicals or plays? What plays or musicals have you seen? Which ones have you enjoyed? Are there any that you would like to see?
I love Broadway musicals. I just saw Spring Awakening yesterday and I thought it was great. Some of my other favorites include Jersey Boys, Wicked, Avenue Q, and Hairspray. I wish I could see Xanadu, In the Heights, South Pacific, Mary Poppins, Billy Elliot, and Spamalot. I also enjoy the occasional movie musical. I just saw Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog recently and I thought it was hilarious, although I'm not sure it's considered a movie. Has anyone else seen it?

I love musicals! I got to see a few at Michigan State at the Wharton Center, most of them my senior year when I had a graphic design internship there and got to go for free. I've also seen several since moving to NYC, it's one of my favorite things to do. At MSU I saw the traveling shows of: Chicago Hairspray The Boyfriend The Lion King (twice) Since I moved to NYC I've seen: In the Heights I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change The Fantasticks Avenue Q The Lion King (a third time, haha) Mary Poppins Hairspray (again) Spring Awakening Xanadu I enjoyed all of them, and it's hard to choose a favorite. Avenue Q is so funny and awesome, and I loved In the Heights, The Lion King, Mary Poppins, Xanadu, and Spring Awakening. Heck - I loved them all! For my birthday Ryan and I have tickets to Wicked, and I'm extremely excited about that. I need to go more often, especially using TKTS to get cheap tickets. My favorite movie musical is Chicago. I thought it was so well done, and the acting/singing were all incredible. I haven't heard of Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog, what's it about?

Wow I am so jealous! I wish I could go to New York just to see all the musicals on my list. I also saw Chicago, but I was much younger then, so I don't really remember most of it. The same thing has happened with a number of other musicals I've seen, which is really a shame. The Lion King is also another one of my favorites! Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog is amazing! It was written by Joss Whedon and his brothers during the writers' strike, and it's about an aspiring villain, Dr. Horrible (Neil Patrick Harris), his nemesis, Captain Hammer (Nathan Fillion), and the girl they both like, Penny. It's not available on DVD because it was made for online distribution, so you can watch it on the website www.drhorrible.com. The songs are so good, and the story is funny and touching, so I really recommend you watch it!

I haven't actually seen many but I've seen Wicked and the Lion King three times each! I almost went to see Jersey Boys but then my mom got really sick so we never ended up getting to go. [/color]

I have been in musical. A small dance role about seven years ago. Now I would never go to stage.
I have seen Sound of music, Fiddler on the Roof, West Side Story and Grease. There is two other, but I don't remember those names. All were in my own home town. I don't think that I can compare my musical experiences to yours.
Movie musicals are great. I want to see more then. Even the music isn't always my taste, I really enjoy watching them.

I have been in musical. A small dance role about seven years ago. Now I would never go to stage. Wow, impressive! I have never been to a musical. I think I can partly blame that on the supersmall place I'm from, and later when I've moved around I just haven't done it. Been to a lot of plays though, especially after I became a costume maker (naturally). I think one of my favorite plays I've seen on stage is Memory of Water by Sheila Sanderson, that we put up in my theater this spring. I also liked King Lear a lot, and now I'm waiting for November 8 when a Christmas play based on Norwegian author Alf Prøysens writing premiers Ooh, and a couple of weeks ago I went to this amazing opera based on the reformation in Denmark-Norway. It was on a castle from that time, which really set the mood.

I love plays and musicals, I also like going to the opera and ballet, but somehow I very rarely think about it and by the time I realize there's something going on, it's too late to buy good tickets. But of the ones I've seen, here are my favorites so far: Play: A Midsummer Night's Dream; Musical: Les Miserables; Opera: Hansel and Gretel; Ballet: The Nutcracker

I love musicals and the ballet and the opera but only very rarely do shows come to Cyprus... I've seen The producers and Chicago two years ago in London and they were amazing! Years ago I saw the Swan Lake performed by the Bolsoi ballet and I was mesmerized! As for plays, surprisingly, we actually have a lot of theatre companies so I've been to many, many shows. The most recent one was Ghosts by Henrik Ibsen which was excellent!

I forgot to mention Spamalot! I saw it in London, it was hilarious. Highly recommended if you're even a little bit of a Monty Python fan.

I'm thinking about buying tickets for a musical while I'm in Chicago next week and it looks like I'm gonna have to choose between Wicked! and Jersey Boys. Which one would you recommend??
